The Department of Pediatric is seeking a Social Worker. This position will provide medical social work services to inpatients and outpatients and their families. Services include psychosocial assessment, supportive counseling, discharge planning, information and referral, and participation in multidisciplinary treatment team. Provide communication and coordination of services with Child Protection Services and law enforcement agencies.

Primary Responsibilities Include:
• Provide medical social work services to inpatients and outpatients and their families. Services include psychosocial assessment, supportive counseling, crisis intervention services, trauma focused care, discharge planning, information and referral, and participation in multidisciplinary treatment team, preadmission planning when appropriate; discharge planning; coordination of community resources.
• Participate in consultative multidisciplinary treatment team, coordination of community resources, maintain database of patient population, treatment, intervention and outcomes. Coordinate follow-up care and consultation with allied health professionals, the Department of Child Services, and local law enforcement.
• Document patient activity as required by the Social Work Unit.
• Serve as liaison to community agencies regarding patient problems or issues related to medical diagnosis. Coordinate and provide, as part of multidisciplinary team, community education regarding program services. Organize and speak in community educational programs on child maltreatment.
• Identifies and pursues opportunities to enhance knowledge base related to programs, articles, staff education, or community projects. Identifies opportunities and utilizes continuous quality improvement. Complies with all policies and standards, accurately documenting the medical record and serving as a resource when needed. Complies with required standards for medical/legal reporting situations, and/or educates other professionals with responsibility for reporting.
To be successful in this position, the candidate should have experience in counseling, communication skills, computer and telephone skills; skills in conflict management; excellent communication and team building skills; knowledge of local and state-wide child protection programs helpful. The incumbent will have to interact directly with professionals from a variety of different disciplines and must be comfortable in a medical setting and knowledgeable about the medical, developmental,social and legal outcomes of child maltreatment cases.
Required: Master’s degree in Social Work (MSW) or similar degree from a school approved by the Council on Social Work Education and 2 years of experience dealing with specific issues of child maltreatment. Valid license (LCSW) to practice social work in the state of Indiana also required.
