As a full-time (1.0 FTE) professional, the Clinician will conduct an initial evaluation of Marines at risk for suicide; administer an experimental intervention to augment standard care comprised of caring text messages sent to participants at intervals over a 12 month period; and provide behavioral health evaluation and intervention for Marines in the outpatient behavioral health clinic.

This is a suicide prevention study. The Clinician's experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills and judgment dealing with sensitive populations who may or may not have suicidal thoughts or behavior. Experience with military populations, familiarity with military terms and culture are highly desired.

This position is located at the Marine Corps Community Services at Camp LeJeune.

DUTIES

  • Promote safety and confidentiality of research subjects at all times
  • Provide behavioral health screenings and assessment
  • Provide thorough assessment of clients, issues, and situations
  • Conduct psychosocial evaluations and provide therapeutic interventions including augmenting care with the caring text message intervention to participants randomized to receive it
  • Provide services to high-risk populations including service members pending medical discharge due to physical and or behavioral health illnesses
  • Perform various administrative duties in support of the services provided
  • Attend and participate in patient care conferences, team conferences, professional staff conferences and any other appropriate professional activities (some travel may be required)
  • Provide some after hours and weekend on-call back up as part of a shared call schedule
  • Perform on-call behavioral health services and provide crisis intervention when appropriate
  • Cognizant of and adherent to all applicable regulations and guidelines
  • Assist the Research Coordinator as needed in maintaining research study administrative, logistical, technical, and data management functions, following proper security measures where appropriate
  • Assist in the preparation of all required technical progress reports
  • As above duties allow, augment the host clinical program by providing assessments and short-term clinical services
QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's or Doctoral-level human service and/or mental health professional degree from an accredited university or college.
  • A clinical license, LMFT, LCSW, or LPC, in good standing in a State that authorizes independent clinical practice. Licensed Professional Counselors must be licensed in Arizona, Florida, Hawaii, Illinois, Louisiana, Maryland, New Jersey, Ohio, South Carolina, Texas, Virginia, Washington State, Wisconsin, or Wyoming.
  • One year experience in child abuse and domestic abuse counseling or treatment.
  • Two years' experience including 2,000 hours post-licensure via full-time clinical position; however, less experience post-licensure may be acceptable if a candidate has military knowledge/experience, particularly Marines-specific knowledge/experience
  • Interest in working with military population, interest in working with suicidal individuals
  • Ability to diagnose and treat mental disorders and emotional and behavioral difficulties
  • Demonstrate competence in oral and written communication
  • Must be organized, attentive to detail, and posses a positive, friendly, and professional demeanor
  • Must be flexible with changing priorities and able to communicate in a diplomatic and professional manner
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment in fast-paced, high-pressured environment with strict deadlines and to manage multiple projects
  • Computer skills including at least intermediate level experience with Microsoft Office Software
  • Experience with military populations, familiarity with military terms and culture desired (particularly Marines-specific knowledge, experience)
  • Previous research experience highly desirable but not required
