Job Title: Software Architect - Software Defined Networking and Cisco Network Management
Location: San Francisco, CA
Enterprise Networking Group (ENG) seeks an experienced software architect with strong experience in Cisco networking fundamentals across Routing, Switching, Security, and Wireless to lead development of a new team redefining the campus networking architecture using Software Defined Networking (SDN) and other technologies.
This is a best-of-the-best job search. We are looking to hire a passionate, motivated, highly energized software leader as the core foundation of a team with almost limitless opportunity to build the next generation campus networking platforms. The work involves design and lead development in a brand-new software-defined networking platform for the control and management of both new and existing Cisco networks. This position is unique as it will involve building intelligent services and collection mechanisms across routing, switching, and wireless networking components in a global-scale, real-world use case. Team members can look forward to their results getting in front of customers quickly and the product performance directly driving Cisco's core business.
You will be part of a co-located, local team that is energized and empowered to deliver quickly. This is a founding member position on a brand-new product. Quality, security, and performance are important, but job one is always the customer experience. This team will operate fast and communicate openly, with a very flat organization and plenty of opportunity to cross-pollinate and drive key pieces of the architecture.
This position will be primarily responsible for designing the networking-specific portions of the SDN controller. This will include services for managing network flows, slices, and optmization in a large-scale campus enterprise environment. The ideal candidate will have a good general background in networking with some Cisco-specific experience and a strong ability and desire to collaborate with other teams to reuse or validate designs. Other duties will include code review and analysis, leading refactoring and optimization exercises, performing data analysis for optmization purposes, and introducing industry innovations into the development pipeline. This is a 50/50 "hands" on position with the architect expected to contribute both quality code and strong coding leadership.
In-depth experience designing networking systems with knowledge of routing protocols and a demonstrable understanding of the roles of various networking devices in modern topologies.
Demonstrated willingness and ability to lead cross-functional efforts and drive to success in spite of roadblocks. Strong focus on delivery and quality.
Strong self-motivation for solving problems and innovating with furious intent to improve the customer experience
Strong problem solving and software development/troubleshooting skills. Ability to "think in code" and discuss ideas and algorithms is a must.
MSEE/CS with 5+ years or BSEE/CS with 7+ years of related experience is required. Cisco certification is desireable.
