Part-time Apprenticeship with opportunity for full-time placement upon completion! The Software Developer Apprentice is responsible for supporting the software development team in the designing, programming, testing, implementing, and maintaining of software applications. The Software Developer Apprentice works under the guidance of the Product Development Manager and Software Engineer to complete critical tasks within the software development process. In addition to supporting the software development team, the Software Development Apprentice also gains experience with regards to best practices of the software development industry. This position will ideally be available September 16 th , 2013 – December 5 th , 2013 in RuffaloCODY's Cedar Rapids, Iowa offices. There is great potential for additional opportunities following successful completion of the Apprenticeship. The Software Developer Apprentice position may qualify for academic credit depending upon the specific rules and regulations of the issuing institution.

  • Supports the software development team in the following areas:
    • Translation of user requirements to an object oriented design that can be implemented and reused correctly
    • Implementation of application designs using proven industry standard object oriented techniques
    • Production of easy-to-maintain and efficient code
    • Unit testing of developed code and formulating test plans to ensure product quality
    • Producing quality documentation for all stages of the software development life cycle
    • Following documented application development standards
    • Learning and understanding the best practices of the software development industry
QUALIFICATIONS: Education, Licenses/Certifications, Skills and Work Experience:

Required :
  • Currently enrolled in, or alumnus of, an Associates or Bachelor’s Degree program in Computer Science, related technical field or equivalent work experience
  • Academic exposure to, or previous experience with, the Java programming language
  • Ability to take direction and execute appropriate actions within a team based environment
  • Willingness to learn and emulate industry best practices
  • Must be able to work in an environment where the noise level is moderate
  • Infrequent, light physical effort required
Preferred :
  • Academic exposure to, or previous experience with, the following:
  • J2EE , HTML and CSS
  • SQL and database development (Oracle)
  • JavaScript and associated APIs (jQuery)
  • Web servers (JBoss)
