Job Description :

DARPA is the research and development office for the U.S. Department of Defense . DARPA’s mission is to maintain technological superiority of the U.S. military and prevent technological surprise from harming our national security. We also create technological surprise for our adversaries.

DARPA funds unique and innovative research through the private sector, academic and other non-profit organizations as well as government labs.

DARPA research runs the gamut from conducting scientific investigations in a laboratory, to building full-scale prototypes of military systems. We fund research in biology, medicine, computer science, chemistry, physics, engineering, mathematics, material sciences, social sciences, neuroscience, and more.

The Arlington office is located on the DC Metro’s Orange Line and is only a short ride from downtown Washington, D.C. This location is home to many of the D.C. areas young professionals. Just down the street from the office is the Ballston Common Mall, which houses a number of shops, restaurants and bars. On the 8th floor of the parking garage there are two ice skating rinks, one where the Washington Capitals play and another that is open to the public. In close vicinity to the office there are several parks, a library, coffee shops, and many other attractions. With the office's close proximity to Washington, D.C. this location offers easy access to a wide array of museums, theaters, music halls, professional sports teams, markets and restaurants.

Job Skills :

The overall goal of the program is to shorten the war in Afghanistan by looking at existing data in innovative ways. Data Tactics provides Cloud Computing support to i2o at DARPA. This includes finding data sources and databases, processing the data from raw to a useable (structured) format for Social Scientists and Computer Scientists to use in their experiments. Their intent is to see if they can find correlations from disparate data sources, which may be used to provide heretofore unrecognized nuggets of information which may predict behavior or may suggest a different use of existing assets.
