Software Engineer - 000000085956

Description

Nokia is committed to connecting people to what matters to them, giving them the power to make the most of every moment, everywhere, anytime. At Nokia, you have a personal opportunity in an inspiring environment to make a global difference. Build a career that you will be proud of. Go on an adventure every day. Help shape a new era in the mobile industry. It’s your world. This is your moment to shape it.
Description:
As a critical contributor to the Advanced Engineering (AE) software team, you help deliver key AE, CTO, and Nokia-wide software engineering projects. AE's goal is a high percent of AE developed, differentiated, consumer centric prototypes being accepted by Nokia's business units for productization.
Also leverage lean, agile development methodologies to explore leading edge (Nokia) technologies and emerging trends in mobile computing, answering difficult technical questions that drive Nokia's strategy. Prototype significant, shorter-term differentiation opportunities for Nokia via exemplar applications, services, and features.

Key Responsibilities include:
Build innovative prototype platforms using commercial and open source operating environments, customizing and optimizing them for a wide range of mobile and embedded devices, accessories, and concept hardware. We match the software platform with the prototype hardware, which could mean system architecture, driver, firmware, or middleware development or perhaps even software/hardware environments with no operating system at all.
Constantly acquiring profiency in mobile platforms and coming technologies, including iOS, Android, Windows Phone, and web. We work inside of Nokia, but we have the same mindset as our third party software development community.
Advanced Engineering is organized into small, agile teams expected to pick-up new projects on a regular basis and work on all aspects of software development. You are deeply familiar with the mobile industry around you and are able to understand competitive offerings and how to use their wisdom to your advantage. You work with a small team of world-class engineers and are expected to be self-sufficient and solution focused. No day is the same in the life of an Advanced Engineering team member, and that is a good thing!
Transfer software technology solutions to product teams for completion and release to worldwide customers. To do this, we develop software based on the same build environments that our internal partners use, minimizing the porting and development effort while being able to understand their needs for productization from prototype phase
Build relationship and collaboration within Nokia for technology and advance product development transfer as the AE programs progress

Qualifications
Qualifications:
As the top candidate for this role you should have...
Deep and practical technical experience building applications and services for consumer and mobile devices that delight consumers. Ideal candidates understand and live in the intersection of speed and quality
Experience building and using software platforms and middleware for mobile and embedded products, including familiarity with popular platforms such as iOS, Android, Windows Phone, and HTML5.
Experience in consumer focused software development roles, building applications and services in C, C++, C#, Java, and JavsScript using Mac or Windows development environments
Experience with agile development methodologies. Think of Advanced Engineering as a lean startup inside of Nokia.
You thrive in a makers environment, brainstorming, building, and iterating on a daily basis.
Great communication skills to take the technically complex and clearly evangelize the business, technical, and consumer opportunities associated with your prototypes to Nokia's product teams, executives, and other engineers. You must be able to explain how your prototype evokes consumer lust!

Additional education and experience include:
Undergraduate degree in Computer Science or equivalent technical degree
Five years' relevant software development experience in fast paced technological environment with background in shipping world class consumer focused software solutions, preferably in the mobile market

Our culture is founded on openness, collaboration and honesty, with colleagues who are brilliant in their field, resilient, and above all, strive for the best. One team, where everyone makes a difference and everyone is heard. We care. Even in tough times.
We are driven by a better tomorrow, not just by past success. We make great products and services for millions of people, positively improving their daily lives. We are on a path where simplicity and “thinking big” can lead to great things.
