The Software System Engineer will be responsible to work across the Product Development Organization to provide detailed product definition, specifications, and application concepts to drive detailed development activities. In this role your first assignment will be to work on detailed definition and specifications for ExpressYard MMS (Maintenance Management System) product development.

Essential Responsibilities
The Systems Engineer will be responsible to bring a background of experience producing detailed product specifications and having contributed to product design, models, and use case prototyping to the position. In this role you will be responsible for the application concept development that will leverage GE application UI creation standards and embrace GE application platform standards. The Systems Engineer will have the ability to do low level domain research, interact with customers to extract product requirements, effectively communicate the application vision to developers, and contribute to defining acceptance and quality testing benchmarks for product release. The Software System Engineer will have knowledge of GET Solutions (RMI) products and a strong familiarity of the organization. This position is initially focused to the EY time, but the individual can expect to rotate to other GETS product lines / teams as staffing needs and emerging projects dictate.

In addition you will:
  • Develop system level application models for emerging new product major enhancements
  • Create business requirements / high level design documents for new products or enhancements to existing and emerging products
  • Incorporate input from users and sales / marketing to ensure viability / value of enhancements to existing products and new product initiatives
  • Define product workflows, lay out product screen content and transitions, and data model requirements
  • Contribute to the application design development and priority setting to ensure critical features are developed in a customer value creating sequence
  • Work with development team to estimate impact on development, support, and sales for new enhancements
  • Ensure that Solutions products incorporate the same look and feel across all applications
  • Drive the development of functional design requirements / specifications for product enhancements
  • Work with development staff Product Architect leader to ensure application requirements / application design structure are consistent with emerging UI / Branding, DSP platform, and GE corporate cloud standards
  • Recommend designs to ensure standardization of all screens, reports, interfaces, and process flows used by customers
  • Participate in the validation of the emerging application enhancements / products for consistency with the product specifications / requirements
  • Track all enhancements entered by other departments (Support and QA) and recommend the priority for these tasks to be worked
  • Assist with development of manuals, on-line help, and training materials (Production of documentation materials will be performed by Information Product’s group)
  • Provide information to support and sales staff on major enhancements and new features introduced
  • Work with sales / marketing to ensure product marketing materials for commercial use is available
  • Work with sales in providing documentation for customer contracts
  • Serve as key resource with implementation and training efforts for large initiatives
  • Serve as subject matter expert to support the creation of training materials and documentation
  • Assist support / services teams in training and/or implementations as necessary

    Qualifications/Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Systems, Information Technology, Computer Science, or Engineering (Or a High School Diploma / GED with a minimum of 4 years of IT or Engineering experience)
  • Minimum of 5 years of Product development experience (Software Development, Systems Engineering, or Application Design leadership)

    Desired Characteristics
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Business Management Science, or Technical field
  • Experience in a Support, Product Development, or Services role in a Rail or Transportation related area
  • Familiarity with product delivery, development, and deployment process flows and activities
  • Strong organizational and critical thinking skills that can be leveraged in product planning and product design role
  • Demonstrated ability to define / recommend product development priorities factoring sales, technology, marketing, and direct customer input
  • Ability to communicate clearly and affectively in discussions with Development , Support, and Sales / Marketing teams regarding product conceptualization and requirements generating activities
