As an Engineering Project Manager in the UXSC group based in San Diego, CA, you will organize and drive requirements for the wireless carrier approval processes for VAIO WAN-embedded models, develop project related activities and schedules amongst Engineering, Quality Assurance, Manufacturing, Product Planning, Business Development, Marketing, Service, and Support personnel. You will champion your program's vision. Strengthen relationships with multiple managers (including development, product planning, business development, marketing, and service managers) and provides them with technical, analytical, and process related information. Seek out new opportunities and relationships as they relate to your programs. Organize cross functional activities and drive accountability--ensuring completion of the program on schedule and within resource constraints. In addition to being detail oriented, must have strong project / time management and communication skills, and strong organizational skills to pull cross functional teams together. You should be able to speak with confidence about project status, existing and new technologies, and be extremely articulate, comfortable with speaking in front of audiences, and able to discern between what is being asked versus what the program needs to be successful.
Specific tasks can include project management, risk definition and risk management, scheduling, and management of external engineering partners and wireless carriers, specification reviews, strategic direction participation, project resource management, and reviewing new technologies for possible applications. Perform external program management tasks as the technical account manager to the carrier partner’s certification core team. Hands-on test engineering in pre-tests prior to carrier lab test entry, defect analysis/tracking/resolution negotiation during and after lab tests.
You must be able to develop, monitor, and report on detailed program plans and schedules with no assistance. Lead a cross functional program team ensuring regular meetings with all affected team members, frequent and concise communication, documentation of the program throughout development, and driving resolution of program issues. As appropriate working with all of the teams, update program schedules and work with senior management to balance resources. Manage risks to the programs (prepare detailed risk analysis and monitor contingency/mitigation plans). Develop project change management processes. Meet or beat program deliverables for schedule and resources. Communicate program status to senior management and regularly (as appropriate) communicate with/to engineering management. Must be willing to travel within the US, Europe and Asia (approximately 10-20%).

BA/BS degree in Engineering or Computer Science plus a minimum of 5-7 years of related project management experience in wireless certification for WAN embedded platforms
MS in Engineering or Computer Science is preferred
In lieu of degree, must have a minimum of 7-10 years of related engineering experience—including a minimum of 4-5 years of project management experience in wireless carrier related projects.
Strong communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills, and the ability to establish strong working relationships at all levels with internal and external parties are also needed.
Strong leadership and ability to build teamwork and mutual respect with all internal and external stakeholders is required.
Strong sense of program/project ownership and ability to work independently or in a team environment with minimum supervision.
Must have excellent organizational and time management skills.
Must be comfortable working with multi-level management and Technical Engineering staff personnel on a daily basis.
Experience with MS Office, MS Project and Visio is a must
Experience working with wireless carriers like AT&T, Verizon, etc. is a must
Experience mentoring ODM vendors to improve the product acceptance and certification process is a must
Experience with planning and managing carrier compliance and product certifications is a must
