Beacon Day School is a non-public school for children with autism and related developmental disorders that was founded by Dr. Mary Joann Lang in 2004. Located in La Palma, CA the Beacon Day School is currently serving over sixty students with autism.

Beacon Day School dedicates itself to the provision of educational and therapeutic services to students with autism and related disorders. To enhance individual development, we use assessments and behavioral management, integrated with speech and language, occupational therapy and other interventions.

We help our students achieve their personal and educational potential and support their efforts to achieve social competence and acceptance. We also participate in the education and support of family members, professionals and others within the community impacted by developmental disabilities.

Beacon Day School relies on evidence-based education, integrating the professional wisdom of our highly experienced staff with the best available empirical evidence available to make the best decisions about the delivery of instruction.


Beacon Day School currently has an opening for a Special Education Lead Teacher (SELT). The Special Education Lead Teacher will support CEO and teachers and coordinate with clinical services on providing effective educational programs for all students with autism and related developmental disabilities. The SELT will lead, supervise, develop and assist other teachers in implementing specialized academic instructions for students with such disabilities. This employee will comply with Beacon Day School due processes, policies and procedures as well as model and implement best instructional practices. The SELT will oversee communication with district personnel and parents on special educational goals and needs for all students.


  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four (4) year college/university is required;
  • Master’s Degree in the related studies is highly desirable but not required;
  • Five (5) plus years of teaching experience in special education field;
  • Must possess moderate-severe credentials.
