Special Education Teacher
to join the faculty in our Connections Academy.
The school serves emotionally disturbed and learning disabled teenagers who may also have social skills deficits, mental health issues and behavioral challenges. Connections is designed to meet the needs of older high school age students who are at great risk to drop out.
Core academics, vocational education and experiences and transition planning are key components to the program. Significant clinical supports are provided and students have the opportunity to earn money and incentives for regular attendance and participation.
Teachers utilize a variety of curricula, supported by technology, in delivering instruction, as well as incorporating lessons into service learning projects on campus and in the community.
Selected candidate will have a proven track record of successfully working with older special needs students, linking academics with life skills, assisting students with developing appropriate coping mechanisms and positive problem-solving strategies. Patience, creativity, flexibility, a sense of humor and the ability to work effectively with a diverse student population will serve you well.
Bachelor's degree and current CT certification in
At least two years teaching experience with older adolescents with social, emotional, behavioral and learning problems; completing assessments; developing goals and objectives and writing IEP's.
Computer competency and working knowledge of SmartBoard technology for instructional purposes highly recommended.
