As a special education teacher you will design, plan and implement effective instructional options for diverse student groups.

Specific Tasks:

  • Effectively implement instruction appropriate to each child's cognitive, emotional, social, and psychological development.
  • Establish a safe, productive classroom environment.
  • Promote social and moral development through planned activities and modeling.
  • Maintain accurate, comprehensive documentation of instructional and management activities.
  • Communicate effectively with students, educational and residential faculty, parents and agency representatives.
  • Maintain high standards of personal, professional, and ethical behavior.
  • Accurately assess each student's abilities, potential, and learning styles.
  • Plan instructional options which meet each student's needs.

  • Job Requirements

    Bachelors degree in Education (with will have coursework in special education) and experience with self contained classes.

    CT certification required.

    The ideal candidate will demonstrate a desire to work with students in a positive and meaningful way.

    Pre-employment physical required.

    Academic and social difficulties relative to Asperger's, PDD, ADD, ADHD, Bipolar Disorder, Depression, OCD, Tourette's Syndrome, or other learning disabilities are addressed within our highly structured program, and behavioral problems can be addressed simultaneously in a place where the emphasis is on the "whole" child.
