A Whelan Special Response Officer/Flex Officer (SRO) must represent Whelan's 10 Core Values of Truth-Telling, Promise-Keeping, Respect, Loyalty, Empowerment, Discipline, Leadership, Flexibility, Quality Assurance, and Results while performing the following duties:
  • Patrol facility or stand post as instructed and serve as a general security presence and visible deterrent to crime and client rule infractions.
  • Detect suspicious activities and watch for criminal acts or client rule infractions at or near assigned post which may be a threat to the property, client or employees at the site.
  • Provide emergency medical services for customer.
  • Act as a first responder to all types of emergency situations.
  • Respond to all rescue calls.
  • Ensure that equipment is fully prepared and functional at all times.
  • Perform general maintenance and upkeep of equipment.
  • Perform and documents required equipment inspections as assigned
  • Prepare various reports and other documents.
  • Perform such other related duties as may be assigned.
  • Report all incidents, accidents, or medical emergencies as required. Respond to emergencies, such as medical and bomb threats; and to alarms, such as fire and intrusion by following emergency response proceedings.
  • Monitor and authorize entrance and departure of employees, visitors, and other persons to guard against theft and maintain security of premises.
  • Write reports of daily activities and irregularities such as equipment or property damage, theft, presence of unauthorized persons, or unusual occurrences.
  • Answer alarms and investigate disturbances.
  • Circulate among visitors, patrons, or employees to preserve order and protect property.
  • Patrol premises to prevent and detect signs of intrusion and ensure security of doors, windows, and gates.
  • Operate detecting devices to screen individuals and prevent passage of prohibited articles into restricted areas.
  • Answer telephone calls to take messages, answer questions, and provide information during non-business hours or when switchboard is closed.
Warn persons of rule infractions or violations, and verbally evict violators from premises.

Requirements

Basic Qualifications :
  • SROs are specially selected Security Officers capable of representing Whelan at any account. They are expected to be the highest caliber non-supervisors we have available. If SRO’s perform to the highest level they may be considered for entry level supervisory positions.
  • SROs will be specially trained to work at our most demanding and high profile accounts. This means training may occur at many accounts as needed.
  • SROs are our “first responders” and will be our first option when filling posts.
  • SROs agree to be available to work many varying days and shifts at the various posts at which they are trained and report to duty on short notice.
  • If readily available, SRO’s will be guaranteed full-time hours on a weekly basis.
  • SROs should expect to work on weekends and holidays with limited notice, and working during “high need” periods.

Under general supervision, the purpose of the position is to perform Security duties as Security Officer. Employees in this classification perform highly skilled, technical level work. Position is responsible for providing life and property protection. Responds to emergency rescue and medical incidents; provides support functions, including vehicle and equipment maintenance, emergency responses, records and reporting duties, and emergency medical treatment including but not limited to medical emergencies, and trauma emergencies. Plans, organizes, directs and controls medical service functions within applicable company policies, laws, codes, rules and regulations.

Special Response Officers (SROs) will acquire a broad and expert knowledge of various high profile posts. SROs will be evaluated for leadership and additional development.

Objectives of the SRO program:

- Staff new accounts until permanent Security Officers can be hired

- Provide security for short-term special events

- Fill in for officers while on vacation or sick leave

Mandatory Prerequisites

Experience, Work History, and Education:
  • Must be at least 21 years of age or older as required by applicable law or contractual requirements.
  • Must be able to demonstrate a stable work history with at least one verifiable positive work reference.
  • Have evidence of obtaining a high school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Must successfully pass an extensive background screening which will include criminal record checks (local, state and federal), drug test, skills assessment test, interviews, and personality profile.
  • Negative result on pre-employment drug screen.
  • Must have no criminal convictions as specified under Whelan Security guidelines.
  • Successful completion of Whelan’s Pre-Employment Assessment of Knowledge (PEAK).
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
