Supervise technicians and pharmacists
  • Ensure new patients and new orders on existing patients are fully assessed for appropriateness of therapy, high risk medications, allergies, adverse indications or interactions, and other potentially adverse outcomes
  • Thorough knowledge of the prescriber/facility notification process for drug interactions, allergy, and other adverse patient safety situations and ensure process is followed by staff
  • Thorough knowledge of medication occurrence reporting processes and ensure processes are followed by staff
  • Assist in preparing the pharmacy budget
  • Excellent understanding of inventory control procedures
  • Ensure timely arrival of medication/supplies to customers
  • Thorough knowledge of the Advanced Care Scripts Policy and Procedures
  • Implement efficient order processing flow according to company practices
  • Ensure that customer drug-related questions/concerns and other problems are appropriately addressed and resolved by staff
  • Know and maintain compliance with ACS/Omnicare SOPs and all current dispensing laws, SOX regulation, USP 797 / 795 for sterile/non-sterile compounding as appropriate, and Omnicare purchasing and formulary initiatives
  • Ensure that all department staff receive appropriate orientation and training and that competency assessments are completed per policy
  • On-call duties as assigned
  • Attendance at management meetings
  • Compliance with collection of Omnicare Framework for Performance Improvement data on a monthly basis as it applies to the operational pharmacy department
  • Oversee medication error reporting and attempts to correct breakdowns in the dispensing processes to avoid internal dispensing variances
  • Thorough understanding of the ACS clinical programs
  • Partner with the operations management to regularly review production processes in an effort to ensure continuous quality improvement.
  • Knowledge of OBRA guidelines and current HCFA guidelines and the effect these have on medications dispensed
  • Respect the privacy, confidentiality, and security of patient information and property
  • Work with Human Resources concerning areas of hiring, firing, promoting, evaluating, training employees, etc
  • Access only the minimum amount of patient protected health information needed to perform your JOB/ROLE well
  • Follow all applicable government regulations including HIPAA
  • Display behavior which exemplifies employee code of conduct guidelines
  • Other duties as assigned; Job duties may vary by location
  • Obtain pharmacist licensure in other states as needed
  • Management Responsibilities:
    • Supervises appropriate pharmacy staff
    • Supervises dispensing pharmacist staff
    • Responsible for scheduling pharmacists & assist with scheduling of pharmacy staff
    • Responsible for performance evaluations and disciplinary actions of pharmacists & pharmacy staff
    • 3 years’ experience working as a Pharmacist
    • Graduate of an accredited school of pharmacy with a B.S. or PharmD degree
    • Current license in state(s) practicing
    • Ability to prioritize, multi-task and effectively communicate information verbally and in writing
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
    • Management skills, ability to delegate
    • Schedule flexibility
    • Must be proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and a variety of Microsoft Office products
    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Experience and knowledge of State and Federal laws, regulations and standards of pharmacy practice is required
    • Previous management experience preferred
    • Prior experience in a Specialty Pharmacy or Home Infusion setting
    • Strong familiarity of specialty medications and side effect profiles
    Physical Demands:

    May sit, stand, stoop, bend and walk intermittently during the day. May sit or stand seven (7) to ten (10) hours per day. May be necessary to work extended hours as needed. Finger dexterity to operate office equipment required. May need to lift up to twenty-five (25) pounds on occasion. Visual acuity to see and read fine prints. Specific vision abilities required by this role include close vision, color vision and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to hear normal voice sounds. The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this role.
