This position is responsible for identification of needs and delivery of services to residents who require speech therapy intervention in accordance with all state, federal, and JCAHO requirements (as applicable). The Speech Language
Pathologist (SLP) collaborates with facility staff to promote the highest practicable physical, mental, and psychosocial well being for the residents.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities
1. Screens, evaluates, and develops speech therapy programs for implementation for all residents, as needed.
2. Develops effective speech therapy treatment plans and goals to meet each residents needs, and produce meaningful functional
3. Provides clinical supervision to Speech Language Pathology students and Rehab Technicians in accordance with state guidelines.
4. Collaborates and communicates effectively with other facility team members to ensure optimal resident care and progress.
5. Prioritizes treatment responsibilities to ensure effective clinical operations.
6. Demonstrates ability and willingness to attain productivity benchmark established by the company and the facility on a consistent basis.
7. Completes documentation and billing timely, accurately, and legibly. Ensures MD orders are obtained according to facility and/or company policy and procedure.
8. Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills.
9. Exhibits professional standards and positive customer oriented approach towards residents, family members, and staff.
10.Demonstrates effective problem solving skills.
11.Complies with facility and company policies and procedures, ASHA code of ethics, State Practice Act for Speech Language Pathology, and HIPAA compliance.
12.Obtains Continuing Education Units (CEU’s) required for maintenance of state licensure to practice.
13.Performs other duties as assigned.
Education: Graduate of an accredited Speech Language Pathology program; Maintains current licensure as a Speech Language Pathologist in the state where the facility is located and holds a valid Certificate of Clinical Competence, or is a
recent graduate and is accumulating the supervised experience required for licensure and certification.
Experience: Successful completion of required clinical affiliations, preferably including at least one rotation in the SNF setting.
1. Exhibits sufficient verbal and written communication skills to perform the tasks required as part of the facility team.
2. Capable of performing the following physical requirements classified as “medium” according to the Department of Labor:
a. exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally ( 2/3 of the time) in order to move objects, equipment, and/or residents;
b. frequent standing, walking, sitting, stooping, kneeling, bending, or crouching;using hands to manipulate tools, equipment, or controls;
c. reaching with arms, balancing, lifting, and performing transfers with residents who require medium to maximal assistance;
d. possesses visual and auditory acuity that is sufficient to assess resident safety and ability;
e. performs typical duties inside, in resident rooms or clinic, with regular exposure to resident bodily fluids.
