Speech and Language Pathologist (Firefly Autism)

Responsible for providing consultation regarding speech/language programming for all Center-Based students in the areas of oral motor, speech and articulation, use of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC), receptive language, expressive language, and pragmatics. Consults with teachers and instructors on communication, speech and language programming for individual students and classrooms. Consultation must include the use of evidence-based behavioral methodology to support student learning (e.g., principles of reinforcement, prompting, modeling, shaping). Provide initial and ongoing trainings on speech and language programming for all Center-Based staff and Outreach staff as necessary. This position includes direct service to clients, including speech and language services that meet IEP goals.

  • Master’s Degree in Speech/Language Pathology
  • Certification of Clinical Competence (CCC)
  • Knowledge of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC)
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Experience across a variety of age ranges and abilities
  • School-based experience and early childhood experience
  • Familiar with sign language
  • Trained in Prompts for Restructuring Oral Muscular Phonetic Targets (PROMPT)
  • Knowledge of literacy intervention for students with moderate to severe disabilities
  • Familiar with Boardmaker software
  • Familiar with Writing with Symbols software
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Periodic observations of individual students
  • Skill probes with individual students
  • Administration of assessments as needed for programming and Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) development
  • Documentation of assessment results in writing
  • Development of IEP recommendations for students
  • Review of IEP speech and language current levels and goals for all students
  • Provides initial and ongoing trainings for all staff in the areas of speech and language as assigned by supervisor or as deemed necessary by evaluation of educational instructors’ skill levels
  • Effective implementation of crisis and physical intervention procedures
