The City of Avondale Parks, Recreation and Library Department has an opening for a part-time Sports Specialist. The position hours will vary based on department operational program needs.
Responsible for planning, organizing, coordinating, and supervising the implementation of adult and youth leagues. Performs other related duties as required.
Examples of Duties:
Schedules umpires and officials based on league requirements; documenting and evaluating the work of umpires and officials; and maintaining team standings.
Responsible for developing, marketing, and establishing programs; coordinating sports field repairs and preparation with maintenance staff.
Coordinating program schedules and facility reservations.
Approving league rules and enforcing compliance
Completing monthly reports in a timely manner.
Work requires broad knowledge in a general profession or technical field. Knowledge is normally acquired through four years of college resulting in a Bachelor's degree in Parks and Recreation Management or a closely related profession.
Three (3) years experience in the recreation field or three (3) years working with sports programming.
Must possess a valid Arizona Driver's License. Must be able to obtain First Aid/CPR certification within six-months from date hire. Bilingual skills highly desirable.
Work requires the ability to read rosters and correspondence (i.e. e-mails) from recreation office.
Work requires the ability to perform general math calculations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions and percentages.
Work requires the ability to write simple instructions and guides.
Must be able to work with citizens, students, or participants in accordance with recreation policies and procedures.
Work requires functioning as a lead worker performing essentially the same work as those directed and include overseeing work quality, training, instructing, and scheduling work. Within this job, the employee normally performs the duty assignment after receiving general instructions as to methods, procedures, and desired end results. The employee has some opportunity for discretion when making selection among a few, easily identifiable choices. The assignment is usually reviewed upon completion. Employee must maintain regular attendance.
