Senior Business Intelligence Developer responsible for developing and maintaining Departmental databases, Data warehouse and Reporting. Key responsibilities include gathering requirements from end users; preparing technical solution design, developing and unit testing the code, supporting and maintaining applications. Need a strong candidate in Cognos BI, SQL Server and Datastage ETL. Work on enhancement projects to support and troubleshoot production support issues. Participate in all activities in the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) process and prepare technical documentation based on our comprehensive Methodology.
This position is heavily weighted on strong technical skills, and prior hands-on BI Applications technical experience is required. Investigate and research issues and recommend technical solutions.
Life Sciences Industry experience is a HUGE PLUS.
: Serve as a technical expert on Cognos solutions; analyze current architecture/ assess the readiness/need and define/design/recommend/implement best practices/solutions to maximize the value of available functionality
: Design and develop reporting solutions using Cognos tool suite including metadata models and the reporting/analysis objects
: Design, implement, deploy, and maintain Cognos enterprise business intelligence, reporting solution, enterprise data warehouse and ETL processes
: Maintain the scheduling, distribution, and refresh of production reports and extracts
: Develop data mart models, design specifications, and metadata documentation to move and/or access reporting data from OLTP relational databases to dedicated Cognos reporting environment
: Work with business users, management, and executives to analyze, define, and document systems, data sources, and business requirements for analytical needs related to the enterprise data warehouse and ETL processes
: Provide production support for the reporting environment including: troubleshooting, new user setup, security, training, performance monitoring
: Develop solutions in accordance with company's Applications Development Lifecycle.
: Follow coding standard and incorporate best practices during the SDLC process.
: Ability to understand the business requirements, and translate it into technical design and build the solution with little direct supervision.
: Research system impacts for new proposed solutions.
: Manage and ensure all technical issues are resolved promptly.
: Responsible for the conversion of short and long term business needs into cost effective solutions.
: Manage the monitoring, follow-up and resolution of outstanding Service Requests. Completion of all required internal Change Management documentation and sign-off related to the development activity
: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science / Engineering discipline.
: Minimum of 5 years' experience in information technology solution development projects using Cognos tool.
: In-depth knowledge and hands-on experience with the Cognos tool suite as a developer and administrator
: Complete understanding of data warehouse architecture, star schemas and snowflakes.
: Must demonstrate a thorough understanding of Cognos and be able to translate user requirements into complex Framework Manager models, reports, and dashboards
: Strong proficiency with relational data models
: Extensive experience with design and implementation of enterprise data warehouses on Microsoft SQL Server platform (design considerations, star schemas, logical/physical design of relational and dimensional databases, Kimball methodology)
: Experience implementing the Cognos Business Intelligence v8.3+ platform, including Cognos Framework Manager design, Report Studio 8, Power Cube, Transformer
: Experience in several lifecycle implementations with knowledge of ERP systems
: Experience developing KPIs, executive dashboards, scorecards (financial and non-financial metrics), and ad-hoc reporting (from relational, dimensional, and OLAP data sources).
: Experience in process analysis; process design, mapping, and re-engineering and process/software gap analysis required.
: Ability to meet tight implementation schedules;
: Strong technical, analytical, troubleshooting and problem solving abilities;
: Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills;
