Responsible for developing, analyzing, evaluating, and recommending value added tactics and strategies leading to optimized purchases/sales/trades of crude oils and feedstocks for the CITGO refining system. The incumbent must have strong analytical and conceptualization skills, initiative, strong sense of opportunity and value capture, as well as communicational and people skills as he/she strives to provide practical analysis and recommendations derived from the integration of knowledge from several sources of data and information, namely (1) deep understanding of relevant markets, market dynamics and benchmarks, (2) clear understanding of the operational and planned reality of CITGO’s facilities, (3) understanding of internal/external refinery economics, (4) understanding of freight markets and logistics costs, etc. On a regular basis, the incumbent provides recommendations on concepts, relevant messages, data analysis and structure as he/she coordinates the development of Weekly, Monthly, Quarterly, and Annual Crude & Feedstocks Supply reports and presentations for Senior Management, including STO, MSOM, BMR, SMR, MAM, MTP and Budget presentations. Additionally, the incumbent should provide independent recommendations on term contract evaluations or special commercial analysis required by Supervising Lean Hydrocarbon Traders or Management.
Duties require close interaction with Crude & Feedstock Traders, Crude Supply Management including the General Manager of Crude Supply and Vice President of Supply and Marketing, third party consultants, Risk Management analysts, Supply Chain Coordinators (“refinery pilots”), Business Optimization Group (BOG) staff of all refineries, Marine and Logistics staff, Crude Accounting staff, Budget and MTP staff, Mid Office staff, and other internal and external groups as needed. The incumbent should be able to develop a strong, productive, two-way partnership with the traders, the schedulers and refinery pilots in a seamless team environment.
College Degree (Bachelors Level)
Deep understanding of the oil and gas industry, strong refinery economics knowledge, highly developed communications, conceptualization and presentations skills, “a team player” able to build strong and productive business relationships, highly developed analytical, statistical and computer skills, advanced negotiation skills, ability to manage and execute multiple tasks in a fast paced environment. Engineering degree preferred, but science degree or finance combined with refinery experience is acceptable.
The minimum number of years of job related experience required by this job is 8.
Develop, analyze, evaluate, and recommend value added tactics and strategies leading to optimized term and spot purchases and sales of crude oils and feedstocks for the CITGO refining system.
Review market and consultant reports, price sets for crude oils, products and feedstocks, and refinery optimization runs to look for opportunities to recommend changes in crude and feedstocks purchases or refinery operations to improve profitability. Develop a data management system to be able to accomplish these tasks efficiently.
Develop and coordinate input to various weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual reports for presentation to senior management including the Short Term Optimization (STO) meeting, Monthly Supply Optimization Meeting (MSOM), Supply and Marketing Review (SMR), Monthly Accountability Meeting (MAM), Budget and Medium Term Plan, etc. Input provided by the incumbent to these activities should reflect a clear understanding of strategic and operational priorities, market drivers, operational status and plans of our refineries, and relevant business items.
Develop high impact special projects independently or generated by the team. These special projects could be assigned by a Senior Trader, Manager or taken up by the incumbent’s own initiative to explore a relevant profit opportunity for CITGO.
