Leadership responsibility for inspiring Northstar tasting room team to deliver exceptional visitor experiences and build brand ambassadors as well as support direct report, Spring Valley Vineyard tasting room manager. The overall purpose of this position includes responsibility for leading tasting room, wine shop and wine club operations in a financially responsible manner as well supporting hospitality activities in order to maximize sales.
•Manage all aspects of retail, tasting room and wine club operations including sales, inventory management, customer service standards, hospitality events, operating expenses, newsletter and personnel management
•Create positive guest experiences through ongoing staff education and development.
•Perform supervisory responsibilities including hiring and training personnel, creating work schedules, conducting performance reviews, coaching and taking disciplinary action. Direct Reports include Spring Valley Vineyard Wine Shop Manager, Northstar Wine Shop Supervisor and tasting room staff.
•Prepare and control annual budgets. Analyze financial actuals –v- goals and correct as needed.
•Create business building programs.
•Execute merchandising programs and maintain the integrity and appearance of the retail areas, with displays that are fresh, clean and creative.
•Develop and ensure proper execution of all wine shop procedures, including internal controls, cash management and financial accountability.
•Coordinate VIP tastings, dinners, lunches, and similar hospitality and promotional events.
•Host media, with guidance from the Public Relations department. Keep informed of the facts about SMWE and the wineries including vintages, winery histories and similar points of interest.
•Work closely with other departments (Acctg, HR, Marketing) and outside vendors and caterers.
•Provide a welcoming and enthusiastic atmosphere for all guests and media visiting the wineries.
•Other related duties as assigned.
•Maintain regular contact with product vendors.
•Maintain contact with local health department or other organizations as needed.
•Position requires some operation of standard office equipment as well as time spend at a desk.
•All other aspects of position require work in tasting bar as well as at culinary events.
•There is minimal travel for this position
•Able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
•Able to stand for extended periods of time
•Must be 21 years of age. High school diploma required. Bachelor’s degree with major coursework in business, hospitality management, public relations, finance or closely related field preferred.
•Five (5) years experience managing retail sales and/or hospitality, preferably in the wine industry.
•Three (3) years supervisory experience with ability to train and develop employees.
•Strong verbal and written communication skills including public speaking and presentation skills.
•Strong financial analysis, business building skills and creative and merchandising ability
Strong leadership skills, with a proven track record of building revenue and profit.
•Experience in managing managers
•Solid understanding of inventory and cash control procedures.
•Able to multi-task in a fast paced environment. Strong computer proficiency, in Excel, Word, etc.
•Able to be on your feet for long periods and work irregular hours, weekends and some evenings.
•Must possess a valid driver’s license
