Job Description VMware Inc., a pioneer in virtualization software for Industry-standard computers, is seeking an engineer with strong distributed systems or scalable applications development experience.
The ideal candidate will have experience providing architectural vision and hands-on technical leadership to a team building large mission-critical systems. An excellent understanding of building three-tier applications is desired. Designing for performance, reliability and scalability is critical.
VirtualCenter is the flagship management software for VMware's™ server virtualization offerings. In addition to managing ESX server hosts, the VirtualCenter Server is rapidly becoming a platform on which virtualization solutions are developed, both inside and outside VMware.
The key challenges facing the VirtualCenter Server platform in the coming years are scaling to manage thousands of servers, tens of thousands of virtual machines and managing hosts spread across multiple geographical locations. Interoperability between multiple VirtualCenter Server instances to enable federation is a key architectural change that will enable may of these solutions to be delivered.

- Design & develop scalable, distributed, multi-threaded applications in Java or C/C++
- Masters degree in Computer Science or equivalent - Experience on advanced development in Security, Distributed Systems, Messaging, and Databases highly desirable
- Proven ability to deliver commercial quality software
- Experience in object-oriented design methodology and techniques
- Understanding of system architecture, including processors, storage and networking is highly desirable
- Must be comfortable developing for Windows and/or Linux environments
- Must be able to interface with customers
- Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills
