Investigate, evaluate, and negotiate claim assignments involving multiple lines of insurance coverage except crop hail claims. Assist in training claim personnel as requested. At times, may be required to assist with taking FNOL or assignment process of non-automated claims during high volume loss reporting periods.

Contribute to the financial success of FBL by effectively determining if losses are covered under the terms of an existing policy. Project a positive image of FBL by fairly and efficiently negotiating and settling claims with all customers. Set priorities and plan activities to manage an inventory of selected field investigation assignments in a manner that meets quantity and quality job expectations and service standards within the Technical Claim Service Representative’s authority. Be thorough and imaginative in investigations. Assist in the training and motivation of first level FNOL team members, CSR team members, and other support personnel. Take FNOL during high volume claim reporting periods as requested. Prepare running notes, written reports and documentation in accordance with established procedures. Determine coverage, set reserves according to guidelines, investigate and document losses, make recommendations and adjust complex first party and third party claims involving property, liability, medical and physical damage during and after field investigation. Performs outside claims adjusting as needed during storm duty, vacations, and other absences of team members. May include travel and/or overnight stays. Adjusts or denies claims, considering deductible amounts, depreciation, policy limits, etc. Negotiates and explains decisions to insured’s, claimants, agents, etc. as necessary. Assist in ensuring efficient operations during natural disasters by resolving claims during storm operations. Assure claims are settled in accordance with regulations and policy language by keeping current with existing and pending claims precedents and legislation. Consider services rendered charges allowable and acceptable customary charges in area. Approve and issue payment. Document investigations, evaluations, recommendations, and plans of action. Maintain professional and productive relationships with coworkers, supervisors, agents, agency managers, policyholders, claimants, doctors, attorneys, and others so to bring credit to claims department and company. Keep a service-oriented attitude at all times. Cooperate with departments to insure aims and objectives of FBL are achieved.

Qualifications:
Two years of college or equivalent preferred plus at least two years as a Claim Service Representative II or similar experience. Multi-lines claim field experience preferred. Associate in Claims (AIC) course designation required. Maintain annual enrollment in Insurance industrial programs such as AICPCU or AEI programs. SCLA (AEI program) required within six years. CPCU designation is highly recommended as a progressive goal.

Must understand the Unfair Claim Practice Act. Ability to exercise independent judgment and arrive at decisions through sound, logical reasoning in order to handle more complex claims. Must be PC literate and be able to interpret CICS and effectively use workflow systems. Familiarity with Windows, Lotus Notes, and EXCEL. Must attend training schools as required. A valid driver’s license and satisfactory Motor Vehicle Records are required due to some travel with overnight stays. Must be able to work under all kinds of weather conditions and fully appraise all physical aspects of the property and buildings. Ability to read, write and speak the English language.
