Summary of Position: The Sr. Data Center Engineer will provide technical expertise to implement complex solutions through project deliverables.
Provides Professional Services (PS) (Target: 75% billable) to support the delivery of Data Center related projects.
Adheres to the Plan, Design, Implement, Test, Document, Operate methodology.
Has at least one major technology specialty.
Has at least one other area of technology knowledge.
Develops deep technical skill set in several DC technologies. Provides timely updates to the project manager and customer when requested.
Implements solutions using industry best practice but balanced with time and product resources available for project.
Executes the assigned competency development plan.
Provides pre-sales support and interfaces with pre-sales where needed.
Provides recommendations to the Practice Manager on new tools for the team.
Engages in continuous learning to stay abreast on new and emerging DC technologies. This includes obtaining vendor-related certifications, to enhance professional development and our corporate standing with our vendors.
Basic Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Proficiency in the English language and reading comprehension.
Basic knowledge of DC related software/hardware installation, configuration and testing practices.
Knowledge of compute, network, storage and virtualization theory, design and architecture.
Knowledge and demonstrated operating experience (5+ years) in five or more of the following areas of specialization:
Virtual Desktop Infrastructure: VMware View or Citrix XenDesktop
- Microsoft Services: Active Directory
- Microsoft Applications: Exchange, SharePoint, SQL
- Compute: Cisco UCS, HP BladeSystem or rack mount servers
- Storage Arrays: EMC, NetApp, HP or other
- Storage Area Networking: FC, iSCSI, FCoE
- Virtualization Infrastructure: VMware vSphere, Citrix Xenserver, Microsoft Hyper-V
- Data Protection: EMC, NetApp, Symantec,
- Servers Operating Systems: Microsoft, Unix, Linux
- System Management Software
- Integrated Compute Stack Management and Orchestration Software
Certifications Required: VCP 4 or 5
Certifications a Plus: Cisco UCS, VMware, EMC or NetApp
Experience ( 5+ Years in Enterprise customer environment or 5+ years with a Data Center professional services organization ):
Storage: EMC VNX or NetApp FAS
Compute: Cisco UCS or HP or Dell
Microsoft: Active Directory, DNS, DHCP
Virtualization: VMware vSphere (vCenter Administration, vMotion, DRS, HA)
Storage Networking: Fiber Channel, iSCSI, Fiber Channel over Ethernet (FCoE)
Experience a Plus: VMware vSphere Site Recovery Manager (SRM) or EMC RecoverPoint or Microsoft Exchange
