UPMC Health Plan is hiring a full-time Sr. Director Absence Management to help support the Absence Management department for its downtown Pittsburgh location.

The Sr. Director Absence Management provides direction and leadership to the various occupational and non-occupational programs of WorkPartners. The Sr. Director Absence Management will provide excellent knowledge of the industry┬┐s best practices in managing internal and external services. The Sr. Director Absence Management will have knowledge of administrative processes, budgets, personnel, and regulatory issues to all business unites of UPMC, the Insurance Service Division, and UPMC WorkPartner Clients.


-Responsible for financial viability and budget of the Absence Management Business Segment.
-Integration of Absence Management Business Services within Health & Productivity suite of services.
-Designing bundled service within Insurance Service Division.
-Increase customer base in new markets by developing and executing strategic plans and demonstrating a high level of personal selling and relationship management skills.
-Collaborate with WorkPartners President and leadership team to formulate the strategy, goals and execution of WorkPartners master business and operational plans
-Ensure account expectations are met relating to service, pricing and support.
-Provide management oversight and direction to all UPMC WokPartners Absence Management suite of services, including TPA for workers' compensation. STD and LOA.
Collaborate with Senior Insurance Division Leadership to develop innovative, employer-centric programs focused on industry best practices.
-Provide operational support to various WorkPartner business including establishing quality measures and report tracing to maintain excellent services and customer relations.
-Possess a global understanding of the following trends and industries: Integrated Disability Management, Total Absence Management, and health related productivity. Possess and continually develop expert knowledge of legislative/regulatory developments, national product and delivery trends, key industry relationships and competitor endeavors.
-Develop and maintain working relationships with external vendors and clients that support the UPMC Health Plan Insurance Service Division.
-Determine overall policies and procedures for Absence Management Services to insure that minimum service standards and state laws are met.
-Develop implement and evaluate absence management policies/protocols/procedures in compliance with appropriate regulations for UPMC WorkPartners and its clients.
-Contribute to the budgetary process for WorkPartners and prepare the budget for Absence Management Services.
-Coordinate with management on staffing between clients and rehabilitation professionals as well as WorkPartner.
-Administers company personnel policies with management.
-Establish and maintain client contacts.
-Negotiate service agreements and fees for clients serviced by UPMC WorkPartners.
-May be involved in legislative activities.
-Participate on professional committees and task forces as assigned.
-Provide account management for all UPMC internal and external clients.
-Advance WorkPartner product lines by participating in comprehensive responses to Request for Proposals and other pursuits of extraneous business.

Basic Qualifications

-B.S degree required.
-MBA or equivalent degree preferred.
-10 years of progressively responsible professional level related experience required.
-5 years supervisor/managerial experience required.
-2 years healthcare required.
-Experience managing integrated leave absence management programs.
-Experience and working knowledge of WC, STD, LTD, FMLA, & ADA claims administration, leave and appeals.
-Excellent knowledge of the industry's best practices in managing internal and external services.
-Experience developing profitable business plans and budgets associated with the external business lines.
-Excellent interpersonal, organizational, written and oral communications skills.
-Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines concurrently.
-Demonstrated leadership skills, initiative and ability to work and interface with all levels of management Good computer skills.
