USC is seeking a strategic leader to play a key role in shaping the university’s future by overseeing administrative functions within the Office of the Vice Provost for Academic Operations and Strategy. The Office of the Vice Provost oversees the finance and business functions (including Undergraduate Programs, Graduate Programs, Student Affairs, Faculty Affairs, Global Initiatives, Office of Research, Admissions and Planning and Information Technology Services ), as well as academic capital projects and space management for the University Park Campus and the Health Sciences Campus. The Senior Director of Finance and Administration leads the day-to-day administrative and financial activities for the Vice Provost Office of Academic Operations and Strategy and will provide strategic financial direction and planning to the academic operations at USC . Partnering closely with leaders in functional areas across the division, the Senior Administrative Director will play an integral role in developing, implementing and managing plans to streamline the efficiency and effectiveness of academic operations for the university.
Lead and manage the administrative team fostering an environment of collaboration and focusing on administrative excellence and continual improvement.
Oversee and provide strategic budget planning and development support across the division including identifying and recommending opportunities for increased efficiencies, allocation of resources and improvements in operational effectiveness.
Design, implement and enforce internal financial controls that ensure fiscal discipline and maximize the optimal utilization of resources throughout the division.
Manage change within the division to align with USC’s strategic vision and support the fulfillment of the university’s academic and operational goals.
Direct all phases of information systems development, enhancement and maintenance with key focus on office automation and web applications. Some of the software include: Workday, Cognos, KFS , Kuali among others.
Represent the Office of the Vice Provost at various internal and external networking, fundraising and philanthropic events, committees and meetings throughout the university.
Partner with the General Counsel’s office to negotiate and execute contract agreements.
Write and oversee implementation and compliance of policies concerning administration, finance, safety, etc. in conjunction with applicable laws, policies and procedures.
Facilitate the dissemination of information between senior management, faculty and staff that ensures complete and thorough communication on important issues affecting the university.
Administer facilities and space management issues, which include space allocation and scheduling, building planning/financing, remodeling projects, safety and maintenance.
Work with the Human Resources Director in managing and resolving staff issues. (i.e. performance reviews, employee relations, succession planning, compensation and staffing). The University of Southern California values diversity and is committed to equal opportunity in employment.
Minimum Field of Expertise
Bachelor’s Degree Business Administration, Accounting or related field with seven years’ experience in higher education, hospital, or corporate environment.
A Masters’ Degree with 10 plus years’ experience and a CPA certification are preferred.
Proven leadership and problem solving skills, as well as a solid record of delivering results.
Strong and effective communication skills in dealing with all levels of employees.
Demonstrate skill in working with large budgets with a keen acumen to do strategic planning.
Ability to manage, mentor and develop employees effectively.
Ability to identify, assess and mitigate risk in a swift and efficient manner.
Knowledge and experience of all applicable state and federal laws.
