Will provide design expertise, guidance, direction, and create a foundation for a future WPX Williston Basin Electrical Instrumentation Engineering and Design team. Should possess superior knowledge of the Principles of Engineering, drawing practices, as well as a superior understanding of standard calculation methods, data collection, organization, presentation and organizational procedures as applied to accomplishing assigned engineering tasks. Will have primary duties of working with the State of North Dakota and other regulatory bodies for reviewing the design, cost estimates, and the installation of the power distribution system for the on-pad electrical design for the Bakken development. Responsibilities will also include the electrical/instrumentation design and support for the individual well pads along with design/support of the SCADA System.
Evaluates and presents electrical design and engineering solutions and plans to meet the oil and gas production team requirements in the Williston Basin. Will utilize delegating skills, while maintaining decision-making control, to junior or third party engineers and designers, supporting functions and tasks. Work product is expected to be excellent, organized, neatly formatted and presented in timely manner. Will act as a resource to the other engineers and designers. Is expected to develop or assist in the development of spread sheet and chart formats which can used by others to present information and data in a clear and easily understood manner. As a key member of the Electrical / Instrumentation Engineering and Design team the engineer is expected to perform all assigned tasks, including non-engineering functions. Is typically assigned as a project lead with assistance from the electrical / instrumentation engineering staff. Will be called on to perform work in the field - site visits, commissioning and startup. Expected to work independently with assistance and direction from senior staff and staff engineers.
Other Key Responsibilities and Skills
Possess a solid background in heavy-duty electrical engineering applications for the upstream oil and gas industry. Candidate should be familiar with NEC codes, UL standards, one line diagrams, MCC and VFD drive specification’s, electrical plans, motor controls, grounding, cable tray systems, etc. Candidate should be familiar with SKM or other electrical engineering software for studies, arc flash calculations, and short circuit analysis. Should have experience leading/directing electrical design teams to create project deliverables. Should have experience in client facing projects. Should be able to work with project manager to create electrical engineering scope of work, schedule, and budget estimates. Knowledge of process control systems (PLC and DCS) is critical.
Interact with other team members in a manner that will help build respect and achieve set goals. Mentor less senior members of the team. Initiate action that will enhance the operation's safety and environmental record. Ensure compliance with all company policies, procedures and plans along with federal, state and local regulations. Interface with an inter-disciplinary team, both internal and external, to develop engineering designs for well and field gathering facilities, with a focus on the power, electrical, instrumentation, control, and communications network design. Manage changes and improvements to our installed SCADA systems. Develop annual CAPEX and OPEX associated with electrical/instrumentation equipment.
Provide technical support to operations to troubleshoot and resolve issues and to provide design consultation on operations driven projects related to a variety of I&E related issues.
Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering (Advanced degree a definite plus)
FE Certification and ideally be professionally licensed
8 - 10 years of experience in Engineering Services (oil and gas or a closely related industry highly desired)
Must have experience in specifying PDC buildings, MV and LV ANSI switchgear, substation and distribution type transformers, generators and transfer switches, MV and LV Motor Control Centers (MCCs), power distribution panels and circuit breaker panelboards. Knowledge of a variety of cabling systems from the use of armored (Type MC) cabling to standard building wire.
