The Engineering Technician works independently to provide high-level technical support and data analyses, and makes recommendations based on interpretation of data. Applies extensive discipline specific knowledge and experience to engineering tasks and projects. Additional involvement in processes will include, but are not limited to, budgeting and planning and acquisitions and divestitures. The individual may manage, mentor and train less experienced technicians. Demonstrates mastery of software systems. Takes a multi-discipline approach to projects.

Assemble and analyze data and reporting from various internal systems including Aries, Excalibur, AVM, and third party well data, including state regulatory and production data

o Apply broad system knowledge
o May check and assure accuracy of data and reporting performed by junior level technicians

Advise on methods for data retrieval, collecting, loading, manipulation, and management for use by groups other than engineering teams/departments

Review and authorize supporting data via research from public sources such as PT/Dwights and regulatory agencies

May support evaluation for mergers, acquisition, divestitures and due diligence

May work with experienced engineers on technical/economic evaluations

Creation of OFM (oilfield manager) database

Circulate monthly reports based on standard procedures to provide project performance tracking

Assist engineers in the preparation of technical reports, analyses, evaluations and presentations as needed (may require advanced spreadsheet applications and skills)

Perform basic calculations and preliminary analyses of data in support of engineering studies

Initiate and develop more accurate and reliable data analyses and reporting methodologies

Monitor new technologies and make recommendations

Train less experienced technicians

Duties may vary for discipline specific technicians and may include:

o Reservoir: Production database management, simple economic analysis (Aries), goal tracking, performance management, decline curve analysis and Aries database updates and management
o Drilling: Create and maintain numerous reports and spreadsheets for drilling operations as well as performance of data manipulation and extraction
o Completions: Updating well files, procedure information, wellbore diagrams and updating performance tracking documents

Conduct business with the highest ethical standards; demonstrate decision-making skills that ensure the safety of all persons associated with SM facilities

Other duties as assigned

High School Diploma required; B.S. or Associates degree in technically related field preferred

Minimum of 10 years of industry work experience

Proficient in Microsoft Office (PowerPoint and Excel are required) applications to manipulate and interpret data and reports; Experience with Aries, VBA/programing capabilities, SharePoint is a plus

Demonstrate expert knowledge of specific engineering software systems, terminology and procedures

Ability to create tools necessary to maintain, analyze and extract large amounts of data

Strong analytical, numeric skills, problem solving skills and a high degree of accuracy

Excellent written / verbal communication and interpersonal skills

Ability to thrive in both an independent and collaborative work environment and have exceptional skills in managing multiple demands, including prioritizing deadlines

Demonstrate leadership skills and take initiative advanced on tasks and projects

Excellent project management skills

Basic knowledge of technical/economic evaluations

Ability to support engineering staff and provide creative solutions to data maintenance, acquisition processes and financial evaluation
