Description

This position provides senior-level HR expertise and support to managers and employees within a biopharmaceutical organization. This includes all aspects of staffing, employee relations, compensation, performance management, training, special projects, and corporate initiatives. The Sr. HR Generalist also:

Drives managers to ensure appropriate staffing, performance, and employment-related compliance.

Provides counseling and one-on-one assistance, interpretations and advice on company policies, procedures, practices, benefit programs, and HR services.

Investigates complaints and/or issues effectively and timely.

Interprets and ensures compliance of the law and policies.

Conducts exit interviews to employees who voluntarily resign.

Provides assistance and backup to site benefits, payroll, disability and FMLA leave, and HRSAP transactions, and assumes Associate Director’s responsibilities in absence.

Qualifications

Employee Relations Interpretations and Advice

(30%)

Investigates and advises both management and employees on day-to-day employee relations issues (behavior, complaints, harassment, promotions, compensation, etc.). Drafts responses to formal complaints and reviews with Legal.

Monitors external changes in law, policies, and practices to define and confront risk to employees and the business. Communicates labor law requirements to managers effectively and identifies potential risks. Ensures required postings are up to date.

Assists in development, communication, and execution of effective and compliant HR policies

Provides managers with council in managing employee performance, including disciplinary actions and terminations.

Intervenes in sensitive areas that cannot be handled as effectively and without legal risk by line management (e.g. harassment cases, management abuse, human rights situations, illegal acts by employees.)

Serves as a resource for employees when their needs cannot be met through their managers by representing employee opinions on policy issues, facilitating resolution of conflict between an employee and his/her manager, or providing advice/counsel to individual employees.

Interface with Global HR Business Partners to effectively resolve employee related issues as needed.

HR Systems, Processes & Administration

(25%)

Participates in, and/or leads HR project teams for process improvement or system implementation.

Assists in the delivery of HR department services, and develops communications to increase employee understanding.

Collaborates remotely with Corporate HR colleagues on delivery of HR services to RTP employees, such as payroll, benefits, relocation, etc.

Provides support and administrative backup to site benefits, payroll, disability and FMLA leave, and HRSAP transactions, and administration.

Collaborates with HRIS to ensure data accuracy and maintenance.

Drives leaders through periodic and/or annual Global HR processes, such as performance management and compensation review in a timely manner.

Completes local salary and benefits surveys as assigned.

Staffing & Organization

(20%)

Works with managers on headcount/resource planning and ensures effective job descriptions are maintained.

In coordination with recruiting organizes, defines and implements recruitment and selection strategies for open positions and temporary/contract assignments, and ensures compliance with all regulations.

Serves as site’s EEO Coordinator.

Screens applications and conducts interviews as needed. Ensures that candidate pool is diverse and coaches managers on diversity initiatives.

Coaches hiring managers on selection process and evaluates issues related to internal and external equity when considering offers.

Partners with recruiting on New Employee Orientations and presents benefits information.

Assists with organizational restructuring and realignment.

Training

(15%)

Collaborates with managers to ensure compliance with global policy and training requirements. Provides in house training on HR-related matters.

Supports leadership development and training, assesses training needs of customer base.

Consults with Talent &Development and develops/delivers in-house training programs as required.

Coordinates training programs with outside vendors as required.

Communication and Corporate Initiatives

(10%)

Coordinate special events for site and corporate programs, such as celebrations, announcements, recognition events, etc.

May contribute to, prepare, or review site-wide communications. Distributes approved site-wide communications.

Assist with employee engagement surveys and actions.

Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree inHuman Resources, Industrial/Labor Relations or Business Preferred

Minimum of 7 years’ progressive, exempt-level generalist experience in human resources focused primarily on employee relations and other generalist responsibilities is required.

10 years HR experience preferred.

Previous HR experience in a pharmaceutical or biotech environment preferred.

This position requires the ability to communicate clearly and persuasively with people at all levels of the organization.

Ability to anticipate and prioritize multiple priorities from multiple sources, and to switch direction quickly is required.

Must be customer service, efficiency focused and organized.

Position requires the ability to influence others toward desired outcomes to mitigate company risk and ensure employee commitment.

Extreme discretion is required.

Must be comfortable dealing with and resolving conflict.

Must have knowledge of change management and process improvement.

Must have knowledge of change management and process improvement.

Knowledge of global HR regulations and cultural awareness .

Frequently subjected to irregular hours.

Frequently subjected to pressure due to time demands.

Periodic travel to other UCB sites as necessary.
