Job Description Overview

The Sr. IT Voice Engineer contributes as a member of Ariba’s Corporate IT department and is a technical lead for the team responsible for the global voice infrastructure. This position is responsible for driving improvements in voice operations and capabilities for voice services, call center infrastructure, and unified communications. This includes configuration and implementation of Cisco Call Manager, Cisco UCCX, Cisco Unity and related Cisco Unified Communications, VoIP, QoS, SRST, voice routing protocols, and overall network engineering framework including routers/switches.

This individual will work both alone and with various teams in a geographically dispersed environment.

Duties and Responsibilities

Duties include providing technical leadership and working on voice infrastructure projects either independently or in conjunction with other IT personnel. This support will be mainly done from Ariba’s office in Pittsburgh, but occasional travel to Ariba’s other locations is required.

The primary duties of the Sr. Voice Engineer are as follows:
  • Analyze, design, configure, install, and manage Ariba’s global Voice Over IP (VOIP) system using Cisco Unified Communications Manager, Cisco Unified Contact Center Express, Cisco Unity Connection, Cisco H.323 voice routers, global PSTN services, PRIs, SIP trunking, QoS, and SRST
  • Support Ariba’s virtualized voice infrastructure running on Cisco UCS hardware.
  • Provide technical leadership and manage problem resolution process for VoIP and data network related issues.
  • Support Ariba's Voice, WAN and LAN infrastructure, including deployment, documentation and monitoring.
  • Provide technical leadership and follow Ariba’s defined standards and industry best practices.
  • Create detailed documentation including diagrams and standards documents.
  • Interact with vendors of voice equipment, network equipment, voice and data circuits, including maintaining support contracts with all vendors.
  • Support networking equipment from multiple vendors, including Cisco, Juniper, Riverbed and BlueSocket.
  • Perform expansion, relocation, or consolidation of voice infrastructure for all corporate locations as needed.
  • Support related voice services including attendant console, call recording solutions such as Work Force Optimization/Quality Manager, and WebEx Connect (Jabber) with UC integration

Preferred Qualifications
  • BS in Computer Science / Information Systems / MIS, or equivalent relevant experience in a structured technical environment.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in the design, configuration and support of LAN/WAN networking environments.
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in the design, configuration and support of VoIP
  • Must be available for 24x7 support and be willing to travel.
  • Extensive knowledge and hands-on experience with Cisco IOS on routers and switches.
  • In-depth understanding of a range of networking protocols and technologies including the entire IP stack, SIP, H.323, RTP.
  • Experience in the deployment and administration of Cisco IP telephony solutions including Cisco Unified Communications Manager (or other IP PBX) and Cisco Unified Contact Center Express.
  • Must have project leadership skills.
  • Must have excellent customer service skills and be an effective communicator.
  • Must be able to work with limited supervision and exercise independent judgment in problem solving.
  • Must be able to actively participate in team discussions and planning sessions which are typically conducted remotely via telephone and web meetings.
  • Must have or be able to acquire a passport for international travel.
  • Experience supporting a call center is a plus.
  • Experience with video conferencing is a plus.
Basic Minimum Qualifications
  • BS in Computer Science / Information Systems / MIS, or equivalent relevant experience in a structured technical environment.
