The Land Technician must have a strong working knowledge of land data, documents and accounting invoices to interface with Land Administration personnel. This role performs relatively complex technical tasks relative to the retrieval, preparation, processing and management of data.
Coordination of AFE’s and tracking to ensure appropriate and timely responses
Send proposals to co-owners and monitor responses
Manage co-owner proposals as received
Prepare WASs to get wells set up in the system
Create and maintain JIB decks in the system
Request checks for land related payments
Handle wire transfers for land related matters
Conduct land/lease/contract research for Land staff
Process all land related invoices and communicate with appropriate personnel on billings and payment invoicing
Monitor lease budgets
Assign contract and lease numbers
Initiate set up of leases in the system
Process land documents to Land Administration Team for entry into company records systems
Create and maintain land databases, land file systems and other lease related obligations
Research and correspond to inquiries regarding invoicing errors, broker billings etc.
Ensure timely review, verification, approvals and processing for all invoices
Provide technical support and solutions to complex problems
Manage and lead projects that require a broad knowledge of technical land data
**In some regions, duties may also include: assisting in ordering Title Opinions and/or obtaining/preparing necessary curative documents under direction of Landman
Conducts business with the highest ethical standards; demonstrate decision-making skills that ensure the safety of all persons associated with SM facilities

High School Diploma required; B.S. or Associates degree in Petroleum Engineering, Land Management or Business; M.S. degree preferred
Minimum of 6 years of experience working in a land department
Desired qualifications: Paralegal certificate
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Proficient skills and effective use of Microsoft Office applications
Technical skills that allow easy adaptation to company & industry specific software and other necessary related applications. Experience with GeoGraphix and Excalibur is preferred.
Working knowledge of oil and gas lease documents, special provisions and contracts, title work, land maps
Strong interpersonal skills and capabilities to build relationships and interact with land, drilling and production operation staff, State and Federal agencies, mineral and land owners; and interoffice communications
Ability to interface with Land Administration personnel and handle difficult questions regarding pooling, unitization, spacing etc.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong organization and time management skills
Strong attention to detail, including excellent proofing, editing and correspondence skills
Strong project management skills and the ability to advance multiple projects simultaneously
Effective team player in a multi-disciplined team environment
