What’s the gig?
Manages all GAAP and tax accounting and reporting including external audits and examinations, consolidations, financial statements and analysis, federal and state income tax returns, quarterly tax estimates and year-end tax provision. Also, leads efforts with respect to impairment evaluations of intangibles in compliance with GAAP. Responsible for providing the company with the technical expertise with respect to GAAP and tax matters. Responsible for the coordination, delegation, and preparation of investment accounting and reporting including managing the relationship with the outsourced investment accounting firm. Attends meetings of and assists with the Audit & Budget and Investment Committees of the Board. Works closely with external audit and tax firm teams to ensure audits, examinations, reports and returns are completed efficiently while achieving compliance with appropriate authoritative guidance. Prepare financial projections and analyses to support management decision-making. Assist VP – Finance & Controller with corporate insurance program and enterprise risk management.
Coordinates with Finance staff, auditors, tax advisors, actuaries, valuation specialists and third party consultants to determine appropriate purchase accounting and reporting from a merger or acquisition. Assumes a key role in Finance integration efforts.
Position participates as a member of the Finance management team that works collaboratively to develop the necessary accounting and reporting environment to meet the needs of the organization.
What creds do I need?
Bachelors Degree in Accounting is required. At least seven years of accounting and financial reporting experience in the property-casualty insurance industry, preferably in the medical professional liability industry. CPA or CMA required. Excellent knowledge of GAAP and experience with purchase accounting and impairment evaluation of goodwill and intangibles. Comfortable working with corporate tax and preparation of year-end tax provision and quarterly tax estimates. Proficient with medical professional liability terminology. Supervisory and project management experience desired, proficient in building and cultivating effective teams, developing and motivating others, and coaching for performance. Strong customer focus. Good communication skills, both verbal and written. Strong problem solving, decision making and time management skills. Demonstrated ability and desire to learn. In addition, the following competencies are essential to be successful in this role: cascading and engaging, drive for results, innovation/creativity, interpersonal savvy, results driven and adaptability.
