The Sr. Program Manager has overall accountability for complex programs from concept through launch. The Sr. Program Manager is responsible to assist the Program Director with the HPRC process, including, but not limited to, process improvements, HPRC administration, portfolio review coordination and software tool implementation. The incumbent is responsible to ensure the Core Team as well as the Extended Team is on track following the established business plan. The Sr. Program Manager is also accountable for presenting significant events, recommendations and updates to key Hospira decision makers, in regards to their programs. The incumbent will establish program goals and milestones in alignment with Hospira’s overall business team’s strategy.
Major responsibilities include:
Provide leadership to cross-functional teams by defining clear, realistic goals; remove barriers to ensure team progress, and facilitate rapid decision-making.
Lead the development of the business plan (and design and development plan, as needed) at each stage gate.
Manage and delegate resources in alignment with approved business plan. Foresee and directly handle project resource issues. Proactively raise personnel issues, such as performance, directly with functional management.
Serve as a liaison with the Senior Management Team, Business Team, Program Director and the Core Project Team. Update and communicate all needed issues as appropriate to facilitate rapid decision-making.
Responsible for developing and maintaining accurate project budgets and provide the information during the financial planning cycles as required.
Organize and facilitate effective team meetings and stage gate reviews.
Coordinate/audit product documentation to ensure compliance and quality of product is maintained.
Demonstrate the ability of general understanding of the skills and tasks associated with other functions.
A Bachelor's degree in a scientific or engineering discipline is required, a Master's or Ph.D. degree is preferred. Formal Program Management training or certification is also preferred. Experience with product development processes by having a minimum 7 years as a Program Manager or two years experience as a Program Manager with 5 years as an Extended Team Member or Core Team Member, of which the incumbent successfully lead at least one project from concept through launch. Cross-functional experience in different areas such as Development, Quality Assurance, Manufacturing Operations, medical, commercial, Clinical or Regulatory is preferred but not required. Fundamental knowledge of functions as related to their particular program assignments is essential. The incumbent should also have successfully demonstrated cross-functional leadership competencies (diligence, developing strategies, conflict-resolution, analysis, communication and political savvy) as well as project planning skills.
