The Sr. Purchasing Agent will be responsible for coordinating the procurement activities required for new product launches, new technologies, and new suppliers. Provide Purchasing interface to Engineering on all external supplier activities and manage the supply base to attain Polaris' quality, delivery, cost, and technology goals. (SxS or Side by Side is Polaris’ classification of its utility vehicles that include Ranger & RZR brands)
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Issue and analyze RFQ for new product components and new technologies in line with the sourcing strategy
Understanding all of the commodity strategies, present technologies and suppliers that complement individual strategies and bridge multiple commodities
Look for and propose approaches to address risks and opportunities not currently included in the commodity strategies.
Lead coordination of resources and schedules between multiple departments including R&D, Marketing, Engineering, Cost Accounting, Logistics, Materials, Production, Sales, Service, and Purchasing to assist in the development, launch, production, and continuation support of production vehicles from multiple facilities
Guide the supplier selection process for new projects and facilitate early involvement of suppliers in design development. Align supplier selection with the commodity strategy.
Monitor cost, schedule, technical and drawing release status of projects and lead corrective actions as required.
Provide updates on BOM costs on a timely basis.
Assist production buyers by providing cost leverage toward current suppliers and introducing higher value technology options.
Coordinate new component releases and design changes. Monitor and facilitate supplier integration for acquired companies with related vehicles.
Develop essential purchasing updates for PDP gate reviews and represent purchasing at PDP gate reviews. (PDP stands for Polaris Development Process; Polaris’ Gate review process for New Product Development).
Coordinate with the production buyer to transition parts once stable production is established or directed by the production buyer.
Monitor and provide proactive forecast updates for the Cost Summary Report (CSR) for assigned vehicles.
Manage & monitor refurbishment and capacity tooling annual budget for all SxS chassis programs
SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE
BS/BA degree in Business, Supply Chain/Operations or Engineering is required, MBA preferred.
Minimum of 8 - 10 years of experience in Procurement with a demonstrated success in developing supplier partnerships.
Effective negotiation, communication, decision making and problem solving skills.
Functional knowledge of engineering documentation, manufacturing process control, and technical data.
Advanced knowledge of supply contracts with domestic and international suppliers.
Advanced knowledge of commodity markets, with capability to analyze data and develop strategy.
Excellent ERP skills (MAPICS/AS 400 preferred)
Excellent MS Office skills (Excel, PowerPoint & Outlook) supported by matching verbal and written communication skills.
Have a thorough understanding of, and experience in Gate review process related to New Product Development
Fast-paced office environment. 20-30% travel required to plants & suppliers, including international travel.
