Sr. R&D Engineer
Responsible for designing and developing new innovative products for filtration, integrating design for assembly and design for manufacturability concepts. Responsible for designing and building specialized equipment to support new products. Responsible for overall product test plan, including writing and executing engineering studies, lab and/or full scale manufacturing prototype runs, as per Design of Experiments. Performs R&D testing of new products, components or materials in accordance with R&D specifications and direction while maintaining all applicable safety procedures. Support transfer to manufacturing; including supporting equipment build and test, writing purchase specifications for new purchased components, writing protocols, and training PE and manufacturing operators on new protocols.
Supervision received: Acts independently to uncover and resolve issues associated with development and implementation of operational programs. Virtually self-supervisory.
Supervision Provided: Provides supervision of production operators during R&D lead manufacturing scale executions, which includes real-time problem solving and direction. Also assists in directing engineers/techs/interns.
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Design and Develop new robust products, systems, and processes for TFF. Make improvements to existing products.
Design and Develop new equipment for R&D to test new products and processes.
Independently run hands-on product development processes and protocol development.
Records R&D experiment details, test procedures and results.
Performs routine and new protocol analyses and calculations. Work independently for new protocol development and scale up (lab to mfg) processes.
Recommends changes in equipment, products or test methods and works with the team on new /product/membrane/process prototype design.
Train and supervise operators for R&D. Lead mfg scale executions and new protocols which include real-time problem solving and direction.
Work with PE for new product transfers.
Independent product research and testing and data recording and analysis. Experience working with laboratory and fully scale manufacturing equipment.
Perform other duties as assigned.
M.S. in Mechanical Engineering or B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and equivalent experience required
Seven years proven product design experience in medical or biopharm arena
Experience in membrane and chemical process development (Scale up) a strong plus.
Product Design Experience utilizing Design for Manufacturing/Assembly concepts.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Proven product, equipment, and process design experience with under a 5 year development time
Demonstrated Innovation Skills and Ability
Proficient in CAD. Inventor Experience a plus.
Ability to effectively work on multiple projects simultaneously
Ability to communicate effectively to all levels of the corporation.
Ability to execute technical tasks and projects with minimal supervision
Computer literate (Excel, Powerpoint, Microsoft Project)
Self-starter with minimal or no supervision
Knowledge in OSHA, ISO and cGMP and FDA regulations
Knowledge in synthetic polymeric membrane development a plus
Strives for results (lab and full scale)
Experience working with chemicals
Ability to travel 20% of the time is required
