Sr. Regulatory Affairs Specialist

Heinz North America is searching for a Sr. Regulatory Affairs Specialist to join our Quality & Food Safety team to perform a variety of regulatory tasks and procedures related to labeling, claims, product specification, documentation and packaging to ensure compliance of HNA products with applicable FDA and USDA regulations.

' Create ingredient statements and review nutrition facts panel for accuracy of information.
' Provide leadership on label and package copy to ensure compliance for both USDA and FDA products.
' Ensure that claims are substantiated.
' Provide regulatory input to Research & Development partners.
' Compile, prepare, review, submit and monitor response for USDA label approval.
' Review and approve final package artwork, disclosures, claims and romance copy to ensure it meets or exceeds regulatory requirements.
' Help ensure compliance of advertising materials.
' Maintain and update pertinent regulatory documentation.
' Participate in special projects and team meetings across the organization.
' Assist in standard operating procedures (SOPs) and job aid development, review and training.
' Participate in risk assessment for regulatory compliance.
' Serve as subject matter expert on regulatory issues to the organization.
' Serve as regulatory affairs liaison in new product development process by providing regulatory support to innovation projects.
' Effectively communicate regulatory reasoning and appropriate recommendations on regulatory position in a timely manner.
' Perform other regulatory related assignments as needed.
' Mentor and coach junior Regulatory Affairs staff as requested
What are the key requirements to be successful in this role?
' Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Animal Science, Nutrition or related field required, Masters degree preferred.
' 5-7 years of experience in scientific and/or regulatory compliance within food industry required.
' Previous experience working with or as a part of the USDA organization strongly preferred.
' Ability to apply critical thinking skills, demonstrated by using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems strongly preferred.
' Strong knowledge of food law, regulations and claims strongly preferred.
' Solid knowledge of regulatory history, guidelines, policies, standards, requirements, and practices.
' Working understanding of regulatory agencies structure and processes.
' Ability to work under tight deadlines and changing priorities.
' Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
' Ability to handle multiple tasks concurrently and work independently and in a cross-functional team environment.
' Highly organized, able to prioritize, work in a fast paced environment and have attention to detail.
' Ability to exercise sound judgment, critical thinking, and problem solving skills.
' Result oriented and translate regulations into possible business solutions.
' Proficient in Microsoft Office and other relevant computer software.
' Good knowledge of the food industry and product development and processes.
