The Role:
NetApp has enjoyed steady 20% growth for the past 5 years along with outstanding stock gains and press around its multi-year standing as a Fortune Magazine “Great Place To Work.” For the last two years, NetApp Marketing has been building on the company’s exceptional successes and developing a powerful brand in the market that reflects NetApp’s position. As part of this effort, the Senior Strategic Messaging position is focused on helping create and shape the company’s vision and strategy as well as the development of business level marketing messaging and actively influencing the development of go to market technical messaging for channels and sales. NetApp seeks to deeply engage customers and prospects in dialog around important topics shaping the IT industry while communicating to these constituents that their offerings provide high-impact solutions to their business problems. It is for this reason that the ideal candidate will have deep understanding of the IT industry and buyer mindset. The Senior Messaging Manager will also:

  • Be highly strategic, having the ability to drive and share a vision
  • Have a track record of leading from the front, including strong influencing and presentation skills
  • Be expert in crafting messages that are business value oriented while simultaneously being savvy enough technically to be able to provide technical messaging guidance
  • Have the ability to up-level messages so that they matter to the C suite
  • Have strong attention to and awareness of trends in IT and industry pain points
  • Establish strong credibility and respect with Product , Field and Strategy Marketing teams
The Senior Strategic Messaging Manager will participate in developing corporate messaging strategy, collaborating with a host of communications and marketing functions including segment and business-level go-to-market messaging to achieve business and marketing goals. The right candidate will have strong leadership and influencers skills and the ability to motivate and mobilize employees. S/he will also be valued by their peer group, the executive team, and the extended executive team as a source of ideas, perspective, strategic input and vision.

This individual will help to create, shape and share NetApp’s corporate strategic messaging with the ability influence and drive world-wide adoption of the “One Voice, One Message” umbrella. Under this umbrella, sub-messages for enterprise, mid-market, channel (pathways) and OEM messages will also need to be created and aligned to the top level messaging. This individual will be accountable for achieving company goals through company-wide understanding and alignment to corporate strategic messaging. They will be responsible for gathering insights on messaging needs around the company as well as collaborating globally on the alignment with strategic messaging with a broad array of marketing, communications and sales professionals around the company.

The Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for development, syndication and alignment of company messaging supporting:
o Executive communications
o Corporate pitch
o C-level messaging
o Corporate Communications
o Channel and Partner Messaging
o Brand Advertising, Events and Global Campaigns

  • Go-To-Market messaging at the business level to influence key stakeholders on technical-level messaging, including Chief Information Officer and VP IT.
  • Agency, budget management and the ability to provide strategic direction for those resources
  • Strategic messaging integration with business level vertical, products and solution messaging for use by channels and field sales
  • Forward looking insight into the future of IT driving messaging around market trends
  • Hold responsibility for providing a sharp focus, ownership and influence over NetApp’s complete brand promise, vision and strategy.
Candidate Qualifications:
  • 12+ years professional experience with demonstrated expertise in
o Corporate and Executive message creation and strategic vision
o Crafting messages that align to industry pains and needs at the C suite level
o IT industry knowledge and understanding, Storage space a strong plus
o People and idea leadership capabilities
  • Proven experience driving business results, shaping a brand, enabling stakeholders (internal & external), creating strategic content, influencing partner communications.
  • IT product and solution marketing experience, as well as pathway (channel) experience, strongly desired.

  • Demonstrated ability to have completed multiple, global marketing and communications campaigns.
Education:
