POSITION TITLE: Senior Systems Administrator

DEPARTMENT: Information Technology Services

FLSA STATUS: Exempt

REPORTS TO: Director Technology Services

SUPERVISES: None

EVALUATION DATE: 07/2012

This senior technology leader will drive the design and development of our server environment, from creation of a design specification for a Microsoft based environment to establishing development, production and preproduction environments that meet industry standards for application integration, performance, flexibility and security. This person will take a hands-on approach to building these environments with support from production and development services resources. This role will also provide input and recommendations to maintain successful support.

As a member of the SFHP ITS Technology Services team, this individual is expected to:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Conduct research on emerging technologies in support of systems development efforts, and recommend technologies that will increase cost effectiveness and systems flexibility.

Working as part of a global team, perform server administration across a mixed OS environment. The majority of the server base is Windows OS but also includes Linux, and ESX (VMware servers).

Administration and maintenance for the messaging environment (Exchange, Blackberry, ActiveSync). Assist with managing user access to network resources (file shares, network printers, etc.)

Proactively manage the environment and initiate required corrective actions when potential or present issues identified

Troubleshoot hardware and software problems on Windows servers; build new servers/environments

Research, identify and evaluate ways to improve systems administration tasks such as patching, imaging, software distribution, ITIL compliance, etc.

Address 3rd level customer support issues escalated from Help Desk; troubleshoot difficult cases, document resolution and share findings with the group

Follow internal procedures for change management, incident management, escalation..

Document the company’s existing application architecture and technology portfolio; make recommendations for improvements and/or alternatives.

Review new and existing systems design projects and procurement.

Confer with end-users, clients, or senior management to define business requirements for complex systems and infrastructure development as directed.

Develop test plans to check application infrastructure and application performance. Report on findings and make recommendations for improvement to management and ITS team members.

CORE COMPETENCIES / KNOWLEDGE & SKILL REQUIREMENTS

Technical Knowledge, Planning & Execution:
Demonstrate solid understanding of projects/initiatives, ensure delivery of project requirements.

Identify, track, prioritize and drive resolution of issues and work to address and mitigate systemic issues

Lead and participate in deep dives and technical reviews.

Lead design, communication, and execution of plans

Operating System Administration, (Windows (all versions), XP, VM Ware)

IIS Administration 6.0 or higher

SQL configuration 2005 or higher

.NET framework 3.5.1+

Experience installing, managing, and troubleshooting of Cisco networks/equipment is a plus.

Exceptional hands on expert level VM Ware skills, ESX and VM Center are required.

Hands on SAN (Storage Area Network) management and administration skills are required.

Working knowledge of server hardware (RAID, clustering, virtualization, etc.)

MS Server 2003, 2005, 2008 configuration and support, troubleshooting expertise.

Disaster Recovery Experience (replication technologies, DR planning and support)

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & TRAINING REQUIRED

Bachelor in Computer Science or equivalent and 3-7 years in System Administration or System Engineer role.

Microsoft Certifications: Microsoft System Engineer or Professional, VMware Certified Engineer or Professional

Health care industry experience and knowledge (managed care operations, HIPAA, Medicare and Medi-Cal rules) with a blend of Fortune 500 and small company or not-for-profit experience is highly desirable.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS – PHYSICAL POSITION REQUIREMENTS; MACHINES AND/OR EQUIPMENT USED

PC literacy required; MSOffice skills (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Regularly required to operate standard office equipment (personal computer, photocopy machine, fax machine, etc.)

Ability to work on a computer up to 7 hours a day.

Regularly required to sit for long periods of time, and occasionally stand and walk.

Regularly required to use hands to operate computer and other office equipment.

Close vision required for computer usage.

Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, climb and lift up to 25 pounds.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Standard office environment without unpleasant or hazardous conditions. Work entails typical physical demands involved in office work. May require occasional weekend and/or evening work.
