The Staff Accountant performs professional level accounting work in the maintenance and review of financial records. The position requires considerable knowledge of basic accounting principles and accounting functions. The Staff Accountant is responsible for the general ledger, banking activities (i.e. cash receipts, deposits, etc.), bank reconciliations and fixed assets. Additional responsibilities include performing monthly closings, maintenance of complex computer system/financial applications, maintenance of accounting files, preparation/organization of various financial forms, reports, and financial analyses, etc. This individual may be asked to assist with ad-hoc projects and general office support tasks when necessary. These responsibilities and tasks will be coordinated with and supervised by the Vice President of Finance.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Prepare and record various journal entries.
Review, process and record banking activities (i.e. prepare deposits, record cash receipts and bank fees, etc.).
Monthly reconciliations of various general ledger accounts including cash, receivables, fixed assets, payables, deferrals, etc.
Monitor fixed asset activity in detail. Generate month-end depreciation and amortization entries.
Assist in preparation of monthly financial statements.
Perform monthly closings of complex computer system/financial application.
Respond to customer, external and internal inquiries on a timely basis.
Prepare various reports and analyses for management.
Perform other accounting and general office duties as requested.
Maintains entity and departmental accounting policies and procedures, and develops and implements improved accounting policies and procedures, if necessary.
Prepare and code check/wire disbursement requests.
Assist management with financial and budgetary activities
Sustain active customer relationships.
Provide suggestions to management and supervisor on ways to implement efficiencies with daily processing and reporting activities.
Assist with general administrative tasks and ad hoc projects as assigned.

Ability to read, listen and communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
Ability to access and accurately input information using a moderately complex computer system/financial application.
Must have considerable knowledge with basic accounting principles (i.e. journal entries, debits, credits, etc.) and accounting functions.
Ability to work independently and complete duties and projects with little direct supervision.
Ability to accurately work under pressure in meeting deadlines.
Must have excellent organizational skills.
Must have hands-on computer skills and ability to operate a 10-key adding machine by touch.
A four year degree from an accredited college or university with a major in the field of accounting.
Prefer at least 5 years of general accounting experience working with complex computer systems/financial applications (i.e. JDEdwards, SAP, Oracle, PeopleSoft, etc.).
Highly organized, resourceful, quick learner and able to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
Able to operate within designated budget.
Have exceptional guest and client service capabilities.
Able to work well with different personalities in a fast-paced environment and constant deadlines.
Able to handle highly sensitive and confidential information.
Have exceptional interpersonal and telephone skills.
Able to work evenings and weekends.

Must have a flexible schedule, with the ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays when necessary.
The ability to demonstrate dependability and reliability by being punctual, working assigned and varying shifts, and completing responsibilities in a timely manner are required.
Must have the ability to stand, sit, crouch, and bend throughout the course of daily activities.
Ability to work in various climates based on the environment.
Must have the legal right to work in the US.
Must have the ability to stand or sit in one location for a minimum of four hours at a time.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
Must have the ability to read, write, and understand English in a working environment.
Must be able to pass a criminal background check, employment check, and a drug test prior to employment.
Ability to adapt and work effectively in various parts of the facility.
