We currently have a career opportunity for a Staff Accountant at our Harbor Drive facility in San Diego, CA.

Description: This position supports the Turbomachinery Products (TMP) Finance Department, Investment Analysis group. The candidate will work on complex tasks such as preparing discounted cash flow analysis of large capital investments, summarizing key assumptions and communicating results to Senior Management. The Staff Accountant deals with financial issues of normal to medium complexity to support business processes. This position will develop an expanded understanding of Caterpillar's business and accounting practices, systems and procedures; apply accounting knowledge; as well as participate on and lead teams. The Staff Accountant will review and validate relevant data and data sources, analyze information and provide feedback. An accounting supervisor primarily through review of progress and results will direct work.

The successful candidate must have the ability to:
Perform investment analysis of major programs and analyses concerning production capital asset acquisitions.

Apply accounting knowledge and provide guidance on accounting issues.

Prepare and record journal entries and account reconciliations.

Analyze and verify completeness and accuracy of accounting documents involving inventory, revenue, expenses, invoicing, and other department specific needs is required.

Analyze documentation to identify, match, and record revenue, cost of sales, taxes and benefits, inventory, assets, liabilities or expense as appropriate.

Review, analyze, process, and record activity related to contract revenues and cost of sales.

Prepare and distribute accounting reports, for example profit center reporting and budgeting.

Understand different revenue recognition rules and have experience in contracts accounting.

Resolve issues with other internal and external personnel within area of responsibility.

Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, or an equivalent degree with at least 18 college units in Accounting required
Minimum overall GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale required
Big 4 Public Accounting experience preferred
1-2 years of accounting experience is preferred, with a variety of experiences in areas such as - GAAP requirements, SOX, reconciliations, inventory, revenue recognition and investment analysis
Achievement of CMA or CPA is strongly preferred
Experience with Hyperion, Essbase, and/or BaaN software is strongly preferred
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, initiative, organization and planning expertise, analytical and problem solving skills, leadership ability, and computer literacy Applicants must be currently eligible to work in the United States.
