Position Summary
The Staff Attorney serves as the primary contracts attorney for Arkansas Children's Hospital and its wholly owned subsidiaries and provides other legal counsel duties at the request of the Vice President of Legal Affairs & General Counsel. The Staff Attorney will review, draft, and negotiate contractor, purchasing, construction, clinical and educational affiliation, and IT agreements, along with the various and numerous other contracts involved in running a complex medical organization. In addition, the Staff Attorney will draft and revise policies, participate on assigned ACH committees, and perform risk management and risk mitigation activities as requested by the General Counsel. This position reports to the Vice President of Legal Affairs & General Counsel.

Position Duties

1.
Legal Document Preparation and Review for ACH
  • Review, draft, and negotiate contracts that come for legal review to the Office of General Counsel.
  • Participate in structuring, negotiating, and documenting complex financial transactions.
  • Work with various institutional departments/constituents to review, draft, and negotiate all clinical and educational affiliation agreements.
  • Conduct legal research and draft legal memoranda on issues affecting the hospital and its wholly owned subsidiaries.

Quality Improvement Activities
  • Advise institutional constituents regarding transactional, regulatory, health, benefits, insurance, employment, and labor laws.
  • Ensure compliance with transactions and general corporate legal matters.
  • Assist with other projects/duties as assigned by the Vice President of Legal Affairs & General Counsel.

Risk Management and Risk Mitigation Activities
  • Represent the Legal Affairs Department on appropriate hospital committees as directed by the Vice President & General Counsel.
  • Work with hospital senior leadership, as directed by the Vice President & General Counsel, on various quality issues.

Position Qualifications

Education Requirements

Doctoral Degree Field of Study: Law Note: Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited school of law and current Arkansas license required.

Experience Requirements

5 years total experience required • • which includes 5 years of transactional experience either as in-house counsel or with a law firm advising corporate and health-care clients experience
• which includes 5 years of knowledge of state and federal laws with particular attention to nonprofit laws, contract laws, and the roles and authority of applicable regulatory agencies experience

Required

3 years real estate, construction, and intellectual property law experience

5 years hospital and health systems experience
Preferred

3 years laws governing research activities, including human subjects research, experience

Certification/License/Registry Requirements

Attorney License: (AR) Candidate must possess at time of hire
Required

Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management (CPHRM)
