PRIMARY FUNCTIONS
With oversight and supervision (as required) coordinate project testing services consistent with client’s needs by either performing or arranging qualified personnel to perform applicable geotechnical and/or materials testing
Perform field observations and evaluations perform engineering analyses provide recommendations prepare associated reports and to a lesser extent manage AET project testing services for assigned jobs The job types will be limited to construction testing and special inspection services

PRINCIPAL AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY
1 Field Work
  • Perform soil and/or bedrock observations and judgments
  • Perform other geotechnical-related monitoring
  • Perform field and laboratory testing
  • Perform soil boring layout/documentation utility clearance meets and surveying
  • Conduct field observations and documentation of existing structures including condition surveys/evaluations
  • Perform material sampling and testing
  • Perform observations and special inspections related to concrete masonry and other building materials
  • Perform vibration and noise monitoring
  • Coordinate technicians to perform field tests
  • Assist in training of technicians and less experienced personnel
2 Laboratory Work
  • Perform soil aggregate and/or bedrock classifications in the laboratory
  • Perform laboratory tests on soil aggregate and/or bedrock samples
  • Perform laboratory tests on concrete masonry or other building materials
  • Assist in the training of technicians and less experienced personnel
3 Reporting
  • Prepare formal reports of field and laboratory work
  • Prepare detailed site visit reports for job file using standard AET forms
  • Prepare information sheets for project technicians
  • Assist in preparation of training manuals and QA procedures
  • Drafting
4 Project Management (Limited)
  • Review plans and specification and prepare project specific proposals
  • Maintain client project team and in-house communication
  • Review and/or prepare project documentation including field reports telephone/e-mail correspondence meeting notes etc
  • Maintain project file in accordance with AET QA procedures and requirements
  • Prepare timely invoices and pursue aged accounts
5 Marketing
  • Develop and maintain business contacts
  • Aid in company marketing functions
  • Perform presentations at seminars or Engineering society meetings
  • Become actively involved in engineering testing or other societies and functions (ie become an officer of such designated organization or become a member of a committee)
  • Document marketing and business development efforts and provide such documentation to supervisor on a monthly basis
6 Miscellaneous
  • Assist in training of less experience personnel by conducting in-house training sessions or seminars
  • Perform other job duties not listed as required to meet division and company needs

SUPERVISION/DIRECTION OF OTHERS
Provide direction or supervise field and laboratory procedures of project technicians for assigned projects

DECISIONS
1 Evaluate the suitability or specification compliance of observed and/or tested field and laboratory conditions and results along with providing recommendations when needed
2 Evaluate the complexity of a project or its conditions recognize when more difficult judgments or situations are present such that higher level engineering supervision/assistance should be provided
3 Determine and coordinate daily work schedule based on project priorities and client/department schedules
4 Determine the content of field and laboratory reports for specific projects subject to supervision and review by a Registered Professional Engineer or more senior Project Manager

QUALIFICATIONS
1 Education – Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering Geological Engineering or Geology curriculum
2 At least 1 year experience is preferred performing jobsite observations of building and pavement excavations performing soil density testing of soils and laboratory testing of soils
3 Must have current certification for operation of a Troxler Nuclear Density gauge

OTHER REQUIREMENTS
1 Ability to occasionally lift 50 to 100 pounds
2 Ability to perform assigned field work throughout the working day
3 Many duties outdoors and away from main office/laboratory location
4 Maintain valid driver’s license free of violations and have access to personal vehicle for company business
5 Frequent travel required within metropolitan area
6 Occasional out-of-town travel possible
7 Average minimum of 30 chargeable hours per week over the course of the fiscal year
8 Average minimum of 45 hours worked per week over the course of the fiscal year
9 Document marketing and business development efforts and provide such documentation to supervisor on a monthly basis
