PRIMARY FUNCTIONS
With a relatively minor amount of oversight and supervision coordinate project testing services consistent with clients needs by either performing or arranging qualified personnel to perform applicable geotechnical and/or materials testing
Perform field observations and evaluations for soils/geotechnical-related projects construction observations/testing and special inspection services Will also prepare associated reports and manage project testing for assigned jobs
PRINCIPAL AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY
1 Project Management
  • Prepare project specific proposals
  • Review and negotiate contracts
  • Oversee and maintain client project team and in-house communication
  • Coordinate engineers and technicians in performance of field work
  • Maintain orderly project file and job status reports
  • Prepare timely invoices and maintain acceptable work-in-progress
  • Pursue aged accounts
2 Field Work
  • Perform engineering observations/judgments of geotechnical activities including those jobs with a higher degree of difficulty
  • Perform special inspection services and materials testing services on an as-needed basis (some full-time duties may be required)
  • Coordinate technicians to perform field tests
  • Assist in training of less experienced personnel in routine field work special inspections documentation and report preparation
3 Laboratory Work
  • Determine lab tests needed for projects possibly including performing of those lab tests
4 Reporting
  • Prepare formal reports of soil materials and special inspection services
  • Prepare site visit reports for job file after every project site visit
  • Prepare information sheets for project technicians
  • Assist in preparation of training manuals and QA procedures
  • Drafting
  • Prepare other project-related memos and necessary documentation
5 Marketing
  • Maintain existing clients and business relationships
  • Develop and maintain new clients and business relationships
  • Pursue assigned marketing leads
  • Aid in company marketing functions
  • Become involved in engineering testing or other societies and functions
6 Miscellaneous
  • Perform other job duties not listed as required to meet department and company needs
  • Aid division manager in developing and implementing in-house training and quality programs
  • Assist in preparation of training manuals and QA procedures

SUPERVISION/DIRECTION OF OTHERS
1 Directly supervise field and laboratory procedures of project technicians for assigned projects
2 Assist in training and oversight of less experienced engineers and/or technicians
DECISIONS
1 Evaluates suitability or specification compliance of observed/tested field laboratory conditions/results along with providing recommendations when needed
2 Evaluates job complexity and recognizes when more difficult judgments or situations are present such that engineering supervision/assistance can be provided as needed
3 Determines daily work schedule based on project priorities and client/division schedules
4 Determines content of field and laboratory reports for specific projects although subject to review and supervision by a Registered Professional Engineer
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1 Bachelors degree in Civil Geological or other acceptable engineering curriculum
2 Four plus years of previous soils/geotechnical and construction testing experience
3 2 years of related engineering or science experience
4 Appropriate “in-training” certification required in areas licensed by the state
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
1 Ability to occasionally lift 50 to 100 pounds
2 Ability to perform assigned field work throughout the working day
3 Many duties outdoors and away from main office/laboratory location
4 Personal vehicle available for company business
5 Occasional travel and out of town projects possible
