Join Cymer and you will be involved in designing, improving and maintaining the software architecture for a product that defines the limits of invention. The challenges include running control loops at speeds up to 62 Khz while making sure the architecture supports control loops at speeds up to 100 kHz. The control loops involve data exchange at similar rates while datal collection for diagnostics purposes is done at up to 1Khz rate. Our control loops need to talk to actuators so fast that we have adopted EtherCAT technology. You will be on the team that is defining the interaction between control loops running on quad core boards and platform software that runs on IBM bladecenter. Data is stored on board in postrgres databases and is shipped via the network to Cymer’s data servers in San Diego. And we don’t forget safety, the control system has a Siemens PLC to ensure both human safety is ensured and machine damage is prevented.
Develops software architecture for a complex distributed control system that has elements of hard embedded real-time as well as Windows/Linux based platform software. The role will include all aspects of the product development lifecycle – planning, requirements, design, code, test and maintenance.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Develops and maintains software architecture for the entire control system (hard embedded real-time as well as Windows/Linux based application and platform software)
Generates software requirements, design documents, interface control documents.
Conforms to the approved Software Development Process and the Program Development Process, and is an active champion of process improvement.
Leads/participates in SEPG activities.
Works with complex hardware interfaces in a real-time environment.
Analyzes root causes of a distributed control system & architecture.
Technical ownership of issues that impact design success, and guide the future concepts, products and technologies.
Discovers and negotiates system requirements, and flesh out a design. Authors Architecture, Requirements, and Design Documents.
Articulates (verbal and written) the design decisions and implementations made to management at Cymer and its development partners.
Utilizes knowledge to design software for large complex multi-processor systems.
Participates in the screening and selection of junior and external (contractor) software development team members.
Mentors junior and external (contractor) software development team members.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to translate, statistically analyze data, and effectively report problems through written and/or graphical formats.
Excellent customer service skills, with an advanced understanding of customer relationship building.
Ability to use MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and electronic e-mail systems.
Ability to quickly develop and understand complex control systems including embedded real-time and application layers
Technical expert of data management, TCP/IP and other similar communication protocols.
Applies advanced knowledge of design methodologies.
Demonstrates sophisticated knowledge in utilizing design engineering tools, systems analysis and design, and database management.
Project leadership skills.
Ability to follow a Software Development Process that includes elements of planning, estimation, gathering and analyzing requirements, developing concepts and designs, implementation, developing and executing test plans’ and engaging in work product reviews.
Ability to interact effectively with other team members as well as individuals in other disciplines and organizations.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
Specialist in advanced technical or business skills. Individuals with a customer focus have developed the acumen to cultivate and develop lasting customer relations. May have advanced degree (Master's, PhD). Minimum of eight (8) years of experience is required
Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering.
Master’s Degree in a relevant discipline plus four (4) or more years of applicable software engineering design and product development experience is also appropriate.
Requires experience in object oriented design and/or UML.
Extensive experience in real time operating systems, control system theory, embedded software design, real time system interactions in an embedded environment
Extensive experience in software engineering processes, including Software configuration management and the ability to read and create project documentation of the highest quality.
Profound knowledge of microcontroller architectures and principles of operation.
Extensive experience in RTOS: VxWorks, Linux
Must have knowledge or experience in:
Embedded microprocessor development environments
Data communications, EtherCAT, Qt platform development
Relational database management systems such as Oracle or PostgresSQL
Networking technologies such as TCP/IP etc.
