Will work closely with the physicians and other providers in the day to day operation of the medical office. Primary responsibility will be to maintain good patient flow. To do this, the office nurse must be able to anticipate patient needs such as appropriate testing, etc. and to perform these test as needed. The office nurse must be able to work in partnership with other staff nurses such as clinical staff as well as be able to function alone and should be a staff shortage. The office nurse must be able to work with multiple providers simultaneously.
Assists the physician with patients, including:
- performing initial patient assessment and planning nursing care.
- explaining preparations to the patients.
Assists physician in all special procedures, including minor surgery as required.
Remove sutures, clean wounds and apply dressings as directed by physician.
Giving allergy shots, immunizations and medications prescribed by the doctor.
Lab work consisting of throat cultures, menatocrits, U/A stix and preparations for microscope.
Wash and dry instruments used and prepare sterilization as required.
Responsible for proper handling, storage and administration of medications stored in the office.
Responsible for some patient education, completing physical forms and referrals.
Assist in keeping large volume and variety of medical records.
File lab reports, check medical supplies, see drug and other salespeople.
Keep exam and treatment rooms clean and properly stocked with supplies.
Demonstrates the knowledge of skills to provide service appropriate to the age of the patient of the following development states: infant, child, adolescent, adult, elderly.
Minimum Position Requirements
One or more years experience as an office nurse in a family or internal medicine practice.
Must be willing to learn all aspects of the office operations, including computer input.
ACLS certification preferred.
State RN or LPN Nursing License required.
Previous demonstrated nursing experience, preferably in a physician practice.
