Summary: Participates in the functions of the Clinical Help Desk, including high level patient and Doctor interaction, Pharmacist verification of prescriptions, and current and future clinical endeavors. Assists in the PV2 check process in the Distribution Center and PAP Pharmacy by performing the following duties.


Degree from College of Pharmacy; four to six years related experience working in a Pharmacy.

Certificates and Licenses:
  • Successful completion of state board exam
  • Pharmacist license in good standing
  • Maintains continuing education requirements
Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Conducts clinical quality checks such as PV1 and PV2, for prescriptions.
  • Calls Physician’s offices for clarification on any orders or prescriptions written by the Physician, provides clinical advice regarding medication treatments, and obtains any and all information to ensure efficient, accurate, and safe dispensing of medications to the patient.
  • Counsels patient on all aspects of their medication regimen.
  • Reports adverse events to the appropriate collector such as, MedWatch and Celgene, in a timely manner.
  • Obtains insurance authorizations when Order Entry is unable, for example, peer to peer review.
  • Directs activities of Call Center, Order Entry, and Centers of Excellence team members that relate to the Clinical Help Desk procedures.
  • Establishes and maintains effective professional relationships with prescribers.
  • Enforces all state, federal, and local laws pertaining to drug dispensing and patient information, as well as company policies and procedures.
  • Completes quality control check on prescriptions ensuring all policies, procedures, and laws are followed.
  • Takes prescription orders over the phone from Physicians and patients.
  • Provides patient specific consultations such as clinical assessments or rescue program consults.
  • Answers the Clinical Help Desk phone as soon as possible.
  • Utilizes the phone software program responsibly to ensure optimal customer service.
  • Maintains appropriate records and computer entry of prescriptions and patient information.
  • Documents patient interventions with adequate detail in both clinical and non-clinical records as appropriate.
  • Investigates and solves insurance company denials if needed.
  • Manages operational and personnel issues when COE Manager or Director is unavailable.
  • Conducts clinical assignments as needed.
  • Assists in the implementation of new managed care prescriptions and other projects as needed.
  • Possesses specialized skills to accept, check, and answer questions concerning prescriptions.
  • Possesses communication skills to work effectively with all internal and external customers.
  • Works well with various personalities and able to work as a team.
  • Remains dependable and maintain levels of confidentiality.
  • Possesses the ability to recognize needs of and express concern for people.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

    Reasoning Ability:

    Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, musical notes, etc.,) in its most difficult phases. Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.

    Computer Skills:

    To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Word; Microsoft Excel and patient software.
