Fugro Consultants, Inc. is seeking an entry-level Geotechnical Engineer/Staff Professional for our San Antonio, TX. office. The successful candidate will perform work assignments designed to develop professional knowledge and abilities, requiring application of standard techniques, procedures and criteria in carrying out a sequence of related engineering tasks. The geotechnical engineer will work under the general direction of a Project Manager on more complex projects requiring independent study.

With general supervision and moderate decision-making:
  • Use prescribed methods to perform project tasks under the supervision of an experienced engineer.
  • Apply standard practices and techniques in specific situations, adjust and correlate data, recognize discrepancies in results and follow operations through a series of detailed steps or processes.
  • Assist project professionals with project execution, proposal and report preparation.
  • Prepare invoices and monitor budget of projects throughout duration of the projects.
  • Execute “small” projects to gain experience in project management.
  • Ensure commitments to clients are met in both timeliness and accuracy.
  • Be able to travel extensively (required), both domestically and internationally.
  • Meet all utilization goals as determined by Activity Center Manager or supervisor.
  • Observe and follow all company safety rules and procedures.
  • Support and encourage continuous improvement of the company’s processes, including safety program and quality management system.
  • Possess current driver’s license with acceptable motor vehicle record.
  • Communicate tactfully and effectively, verbally and in writing.
  • Maintain effective work relations with those encountered in the course of employment.
  • Come to work regularly and on time.
  • Execute work duties in an organized and efficient manner.
  • Maintain organized and clean work area.
  • Work well while under supervision.

position requirements
  • Possess current driver’s license with acceptable motor vehicle record.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills with excellent interpersonal skills, and ability to work with others to achieve desired result.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals, present information and ideas, and respond to questions in a clear and concise manner.
  • Practical knowledge of college-level calculus, geometry, statistics, and other related mathematical disciplines.
  • Understand advanced technical requirements and current Geosciences data acquisition procedures.
  • Stay abreast of current professional practices, periodicals, and technological advancements.
  • Maintain meaningful involvement in professional organizations.
  • Advanced knowledge of technology including standard office and engineering software and equipment.
  • Valid passport.

Physical Qualifications
  • Performs moderate work exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
  • Daily activities include both field and office environments.
  • Some travel may be required including possible long-term out-of-town assignments.
  • Possible international travel/assignments may be required.

  • Master’s degree from accredited college or university in Civil Engineering, Geophysical Engineering, Geology or equivalent required; Ph. D. preferred. E.I.T. preferred.
  • Familiar with modern office methods, practices, procedures and equipment, as well as filing systems and business letter writing and competent in correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and arithmetic.
