This is a Staff Research Assistant position in an immunobiology laboratory performing pre-clinical research on vaccines for protection of against disease caused by the bacterium Neisseria meningitidis. Duties will include molecular cloning; protein purification and analysis; immunological assays, including ELISA, flow cytometry and in vitro bacterial killing assays. The work will involve handling human and animal blood (or serum) samples, and work with laboratory animals.

Job Summary:
The Staff Research Associate I, under supervision, performs routine, technical laboratory procedures that require special training and skill, and usually has a theoretical background in one scientific field; or performs non-routine or a wide variety of routine, technical laboratory procedures but without (or before having demonstrated) the speed, resourcefulness, ingenuity, adaptability, or other qualities required in the performance of such duties at the Staff Research Associate II level.

Position Requirements :
Minimum Education : BA/BS with a major in an applicable natural science.
Knowledge/Skills : Under general direction, performs a wide variety of routine laboratory procedures or performs non-routine procedures in a specialized field with resourcefulness and adaptability to special and changing needs of research or performs a limited variety of routine but highly specialized laboratory procedures. A firm understanding of molecular and microbiology at the level of a B.S. diplomate in microbiology, biochemistry, or a related field. Experience with molecular biology and biochemical techniques preferred. Experience performing immunological assays such as ELISAs, flow-cytometry, or bacterial work is desirable. Attention to detail and strong organizational, note-taking and communication skills is desired.
