The Systems department of the United Technologies Research Center (UTRC) has an open position in the area of Cyber-Physical Security at the level of staff or senior scientist. Candidates meeting a substantial subset of the criteria listed below are encouraged to apply. The appropriate grade level will be assessed based on education and years/type of experience.

Cyber-physical security addresses the security concerns of cyber-physical systems. The attack surface of such systems includes not only the usual interfaces of a computer system, e.g., network interfaces, but also sensors and actuators. In addition, the security concerns for cyber-physical systems may include hazards that grow out of attacks that affect confidentiality, integrity and availability. UTRC is developing capability in cyber-physical security to apply to the full range of UTC products and programs. Our program involves both practical application of current best practices as well as research to address gaps in current state-of-the-art methodologies.

Successful candidates will also be expected to
Work on hard problems with little to no supervision, yet assuring good coordination with team members and leader for attaining the project goals.
Be a good team player.
Act as principal investigator, leading multidisciplinary teams focused on creative, integrated solutions for business and technical challenges
Be able to communicate effectively to both technical peers and senior management.
Author technical papers and reports including publications in top journals and conferences;
Be active in related technical communities.

L5: - Minimum of M.S. in Electrical Engineering with 6 years of experience, Preferred: Ph.D, plus 5 years of industrial or academic experience after completion of the Ph.D. in disciplines as outlined above.

L6: - Minimum or M.S. in Electrical Engineering with 4 years of experience or PhD with exceptional publishing and academic record in disciplines as outlined above.

The candidate should have a solid background in vulnerability assessment and thorough knowledge of best practices in countermeasures and design processes for secure systems, for example, encryption, authentication and anomaly detection. Successful candidate should also have a solid background in embedded systems and cyber-physical systems with past experience in applying cyber-physical security concepts to the particular constraints of embedded systems, including scalability of countermeasures. Candidates should also have a proven track record of research in cyber-security or cyber-physical security.
