Under direct supervision of the Stationary Engineer-Chief, operates, administers and maintains the Power Plant at the East Moline Correctional Center; supervises staff and assigned inmates engaged in repair work and maintenance of the powerhouse and boiler room; enforces and maintains safety, security and custodial measures. Repairs facility's equipment, buildings and equipment as directed, contacts outside vendors to receive price quotes, bids for equipment on repairs and replacements reporting to supervisor on bids and work necessary.

Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of high school. Requires four years of experience in the operation of a commercial or institutional power plant or as a skilled craftsman in the mechanical or building trades. Requires working knowledge of the principles, practices and methods used in operating high-pressure coal, gas or oil fired boilers and their auxiliaries. Requires elementary knowledge of the operation of electrical generating equipment. Requires ability to supervise and direct the work of employees and inmate or patient labor engaged in power plant operation.
