To assist the OR, Labor & Delivery Nursing Units, ER, Clinics and various other departments by processing and maintaining supplies and equipment (both sterile and unsterile) required for the care, diagnosis and treatment of the patient. To demonstrate a clear understanding of Central Service theory in such areas as medical terminology, cleaning, isolation and the ability to adapt the knowledge to Sterile Processing. Is responsible for reporting identified safety issues such as hazardous environments (i.e. damaged floors/walls/ceiling tiles/unsecured areas) and medical errors, etc
High School diploma, required. Maintains current SPD Technician Certification per state regulations.
Minimum of 1-3 years hospital experience, one to three years Central Supply experience preferred.
Phone, computerized systems, intercom system, mechanical washers, drying cabinet, steam sterilizers, biological incubator, sterilization label applicator and various types of patient care equipment (e.g., IV pumps, KPAD machine).
Work Environment and Hazards:
Satisfactory with exposure to heat, cold, dust, chemicals, sharps, needles, blood and body fluids.
Work Contact Group:
Patients, physicians, nurses, clerical techs, materials management, housekeeping, laundry, co-workers, finance personnel, all other MMC associates, sales people and the general public.
Special Physical Demands:
Must be able to lift 50 pounds, push and pull carts with 50+ pounds up and down grades. Requires standing all day and walking.
Must be able to detect colors. Must meet requirements of the ADA (attached)
