Position Summary:
The Storage & Backup Administrator is responsible for enterprise data backup, recovery and DR in an open systems environment. The position requires 24x7 on-call support for production data backup issues.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Administer production and legacy backup systems
  • Monitor the backup environment related to growth and performance
  • Create/Run routine reports on the overall health and growth of the backup environment
  • Document procedures and processes around the backup environment
  • Provide on-call support for storage and backup
  • Work on complex tasks, projects, activities or support issues
  • Some travel may be required
  • Ensure the integrity of backups for both local and remote sites
  • Work with software and hardware vendors to troubleshoot and solve backup issues
  • Maintain a knowledge database with resolutions, workarounds, known issues
  • Monitor system backups and re-run as necessary and process restore requests
  • Review system logs to identify signs of potential problems
  • Repair or replace system hardware when necessary
  • Responsible for keeping documentation of the backup infrastructure up to date and maintaining an accurate hardware and software inventory
  • Provide metrics to management for use in trending
  • Maintain regular tape rotation cycle for local and offsite storage of media
  • Place hardware service calls and schedule regular maintenance on backup hardware and software
  • Perform test restores on a regular basis
Education / Prior Experience Preferred:
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Preferred: 2+ years of extensive experience with Symantec’s Netbackup, CommVault Simpana, deduplication and tape encryption
  • Experience with disaster recovery components and procedures preferred
o Storage Hardware experience needed: EMC Symmetrix VMAX, EMC CLARiiON, EMC VNX, IBM XIV, Cisco
SAN Switches, and Brocade SAN Switches
  • Storage Software experience preferred: EMC Symcli, EMC ControlCenter, EMC SMC, Cisco Fabric Manager, Connectrix Manager, Open Replicator, PowerPath, Timefinder Clone/SNAP, SRDF/A and/or SRDF/AR, Symmetrix Optimizer, Performance Manager, StorageScope
  • Backup Hardware experience needed: IBM Tape Library, virtual tape or disk pools
  • Knowledge of open systems platforms including AIX, HPUX, Windows Server, and VMWare
  • Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws (HIPAA and SOX)
  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment

  • Willingness to work outside of business hours on weekdays and on weekends to support the storage and backup environments
  • Excellent hardware and software troubleshooting experience
  • Willingness to learn new software, hardware, and technologies in the storage and backup environments
  • High proficiency with Microsoft Office software
